IF you had to sell your DSM how would you do it? Let's assume that it isn't because you crashed it. :o ;)

Do you have to sell your DSM, Terror?

If it were to sell it would only be with the hopes of getting a MKIV, anything less wouldnt be worth it IMO.

if someone were going to chop my dick off, i'd part it out first.

I've sold many DSMs except my 91, but if the $$$$ price was right I would let it go too. I keep trying to get down to one DSM (my 91) but I keep buying them. I find deals, buy'em, fix'em and start modding and then someone comes along and offers me more than I have in it and its gone (not likely to happen with my 91). One DSM is more than enough work, but getting different ones, fixing them and keeping them on the road makes me happy. I hate to see an AWD car get stripped and sent to the scrapper when it repairable, especially when its just a broken driveline.

I've made the mistake once of getting very attached to a car and selling it, and i've regretted it ever since. I plan on keeping this one for a very, very long time (providing nothing bad happens :( ).

Thankfully no! :)

It just occurred to me that some people lose money when they sell their modded cars as is, versus parting them back out to stock before selling. Thus the new poll was born... :P

I thought I'd never sell mine but mines on DSMTrader right now.

Some things change in your life especially as you get older and priorities change too and I want a nice house instaed of a fast car at the moment so I'm taking a break and then in a few years I'll buy something else. Another DSM? Probably not since I don't want to go down the same path and be frustrated all over again so it may be an newer Firebird or a Supra or who knows.

I wouldn't even think about selling it!! This DSM turned me into a mechanic :scholar:, hauls ass :hail:, and drops the panties ;). For the low-budget, you can't ask for more than that.

I would never sell my car I just got it 3 days ago and I love it cause it is the car I have wanted since I was 16 and I am 21 now. SO 5 cars later I finally got a clean 1990 Eagle Talon FWD Turbo and she is nice and fast!!! Just has a k&N filter and just that makes a bit of a difference especially noise wise. :) Looking to start modding it soon.

I dont think anyone was actually asking you to sell the car here guys, it was just hypothetical really, and odds are for the rest of your life you wont be driving a DSM, so really I dont see why you guys say "I'd never sell it" as I know and you should know too, that that just cant be true. I have yet to see another DSM in person that was as nice as mine (by nice I mean clean installs, luxury, comfort, and having a decent amount of power) and yet if offered the right amount I bet I'd take it in a heartbeat.

ALLTRBO
08-29-2003, 11:05 AM
Okay, for $20,000 or more I'd sell my Talon right now. Would anyone pay that? Not unless they're an idiot with a lot of money to waste.
When I get done with it, or near done, I wouldn't sell it unless I could make enough money off of it to be able to buy another one and do it all over again. Once again, no one would pay that much, which is why I will keep it for a very long time. The rest of my life? Maybe not, but I can assure you that as long as I can drive it and keep it maintained I will own it, along with a few other cars I plan on building. I'm not a person to welcome change very often (and unfortunately in todays world, it's hard to be that way, but it's who I am). If something happens, I will get another one later on. Cars aren't just my transportation, they're my lifestyle.
I have enough plans for it to last me a lifetime anyway, at the rate i'm going now. :P

(A little sentimental but here it goes...)
Sometimes money can't pay for all the bloody knuckles and all the cursing when you first upgraded that turbo, or installed that damn FMIC. To me, the fact that all I know is about these cars, why should I go out and buy a WRX or something like that? If I would buy another car (notice that I didn't say I would sell mine), it would be a 1G AWD.
Have you ever seen those guys that are like 70 years old and they brag about their 50's and 60's cars? Can you imagine 40 years from now.:santa:

DRW
08-29-2003, 11:35 PM
Yup, I see where you're coming from. An old guy across the street has an old car, plus a few others. I see myself like that many years from now because I can't seem to sell my '90 FWD, production date Nov. '88. I've tried to sell it, but the best offer I got wasn't even enough to get some ten year old POS economy wheezer. So I'm keeping it! and I guess I'll keep the AWD, too, even though I won't be able to mod it as much as I could with the money from selling the FWD.
and of course, I reserve the right to change my mind at the slightest whim!

I agree with Machinis. Sometimes the money isnt really what matters to some people when it comes to cars. Its the hours in the garage that you spent. It can make for a very sentimental car. To other people its just not all that important. Its all an opinion hense this is an opinion poll but i dont think ill ever sell mine till stops moving.

scotthidley
09-05-2003, 03:21 PM
I'd sell as is, because I'd only sell if somebody offered me somewhere near the insanely amount of money that I've dumped into it. The only other alternative, which isn't listed as an option, is return it to stock and keep the performance parts for another one.

my car is my toy... i will never see 1/2 the money back if i sold it so i see no reason to sell it! :) im only 20 and am on my 4th dsm(3 turbo's). i love these cars and i hope to never stop driving a turbo awd car. Dont get me wrong i'd like an evo or WRX, but a 1g is where my roots are. Plus i feel like i can fix anything on a 1g since i've taken apart 3 and put back together 1 :) hehe

i'v owned mine since i was 16 years old, it was my first car and now i'm 22, had a few dailys but the talon has stayed. after it broke (ended up being the tob exploded) i didn't have the money to do what i wanted being i didn't want it fixed, i wanted what i always wanted. So almost 2 years later, a promotion and some $ spent i'm currently building mine. Just got the engine back from the machine shop friday actually gotta start assembling it.

i have had this car apart more times than i can count, this is my first full build, and i would never sell it. After all what is $7-10 in the big game of life?

Ever since i got rid of my 91 Tsi fwd in 04 I wished I would have kept it and fixed it, but now that I have my 95 Gsx I am to determined to get it back into excellent shape from what shape the previous teenage owner had it in to just sell it at some point in the future.

After all what is $7-10 in the big game of life?

Agreed. Except over the time I'm planning on keeping my car it'll probably be more than that. Hopefully my IT degree pulls through for me when I graduate.

If I “ Had” to sell it, and only if I “Had” to sell it… I would reinstall all the original parts (put it back to stock) then sell it. Then sell off all the performance parts separately to try and recover some of the cash. My car was bone stock when I bought it, and I saved every single part removed during the build.

XFADE
06-01-2007, 10:22 PM
I lost my first due to parking tickets. Out of town for a week. It had rod knock I was planning on fixing it. But $2,500 in parking tickets later. I said screw it. Plus I pulled most of my parts of it already so they wouldn't get stolen.

I ended up buying 2 more. Can't stay away. Every time I get pissed and take a break I end up finding one dirt cheap and fall in love again. Like my last one for $550.

hm. i dont think i would sell any time soon. ive had my car about 5-6 months now and when i bought it i was told it was "mint" so i bought it for 4500. (BTW its a '93 talon tsi awd with a "new" 6bolt) so i get it home. drive it for a month or 2 then stuff starts going bad. i fix something then something else goes wrong. this goes on for another month. then not long ago i got it back from a 3 month stay at a local body shop to drive it for a whopping 3 days before it stats overheating. then i fix that drive it about 1 hour later i ran a fully built all motor crx and start to hear a tick. then slowly everytime i drove it felt like less power and i notice im only running 5lbs of boost!?! and i hear a horrible whining/rattling noise and i have a huge lack of power. then a day later the motor takes a shit. this being my first car and me being an impatient 17 year old i was pissed and i wanted to sell and get something reliable. but something told me not to and now it sits in my driveway awaiting the jdm powerplant that will be here tomarrow!!! the old block is in my garage awaiting a 2.3l stroker kit and a gt30. oh yeah and when i pulled the old motor out i found out my front driver side axle was broken :wall: .

I seriously disagree. Same year, both stock, lets say mitsu and ford. All we've been getting at work lately is ford junk that is just sh!t all around. They use junk materials and everything on them is cheap, all the way down to the threads on the bolts.
We have a customer that had his v6 mustang in 4 times this year and spent over 3 grand with us in dumb shit that you wouldnt ever expect to be fixing. Aside from that, ford pickups are the "second best" with their oh so popular rotting leaf spring mounts to the point where they actually brake completely!:puke:

My DSM was bone stock for 1 year- not a single problem.

or traded a Talon AWD for it, but then again who would take that offer?
Like some one said some where in a tread, built it, race it, brake it, do it all over
again,

I've sold many DSMs except my 91, but if the $$$$ price was right I would let it go too. I keep trying to get down to one DSM (my 91) but I keep buying them. I find deals, buy'em, fix'em and start modding and then someone comes along and offers me more than I have in it and its gone (not likely to happen with my 91). One DSM is more than enough work, but getting different ones, fixing them and keeping them on the road makes me happy. I hate to see an AWD car get stripped and sent to the scrapper when it repairable, especially when its just a broken driveline.
Its good there are people like you around. If we have enough people like you, dsm's will never die out :D

If I had to sell my DSM I would get a 1G AWD for sure. I've actually been thinking of trying to find an AWD that needs an engine and selling my 94 GS (2.0l NT swap). I'm planning on building the engine for boost, but I'd be more then happy to let it go for a stock AWD.

I came across a 92 AWD shell a little while back with most of the drivetrain intact with some other goodies for 350$. I wish now I would have bought it, but at the time I didn't have the time or money to invest in it.

I will never sell my 2g Talon we've been through a lot with her and even when she is down right now over some stupid shit that happened (stolen) she came back to me. Too much sweat, blood, and tears shed. Besides I couldn't live with the idea that someone else is driving something that I put toghether and later find out he crashed it. Hell no!!!

Oh shit, please don't buy an Audi, they have more problems than DSMs and are not engineered very well at all.

Owned a 02 A6 Quattro with the 4.2L 40V V8 :)

I had put a solid 280k on ( bought her at 110k ) and the only things that went wrong were the water pump and alternator, and drove the shit out of it!

Then i lost my job, fell behind with the payments and then i couldn't afford her anymore and told the bank to come and pick her up. 2 weeks latter moved out of the province for a $110K/year contract with Ford...
Talk about a kick in the balls

But now I have my GST which I'm about to convert to a GSX ...
So its all good

And then when summer rolls around start putting together the Ultima :D

I now plan selling mine to get most probably a clean '94 or later Stealth TT (or VR4, depending on what I find). I'll try to sell it as a package, if I don't find a buyer I'll part the bigger mods and try to sell it almost stock.

Or... if I find myself really rich all of a sudden (???) I might keep it beside the 3S :)

(yeah right, dream on)

Wrong. I am keeping the DSM for an indefinite period of time.

I'll never get rid of my DSM, mainly because now it has a salvage title and only books for $3,000, even though i have over $15,000 invested... I would however garage it and build an evo8 GSR, MKIV apu+ supra, or a 300zxtt

Dont see myself ever selling my galant. However I've always wanted to import a 2000 Galant VR-4 or a Skyline. If i sold it though I'd try to sell it as is but if I couldnt get any good offers I'd be forced to part it out.

Never! My first car was a 93 Eagle talon DL and ever since then I have fell inlove with these cars. I then sold that and bought myself a 92 Eagle talon TSI awd and then one day it randomly got hit by a drunk driver in my yard and was a write off so I was pretty much forced to get rid of it. But, since then I finally found my dream car and purchased a 99 mitsubishi eclipse GSX :) I've had problems ever since the 1st day i've had it but the hell with it, it's an amazing car and will be a fun journey moding.

I'd only sell my 99 GST is to get a 99 GSX. LOL. But honestly i'm in the thinking process if i want to sell my GST. I dont know tho, cuz i know i'd miss it if i did sell it. I say it all the time but never really push to sell it. So i guess it be more like i wouldnt sell it, but if i had to i would. All the blood, sweat and tears youve put into your doesnt match the endless happiness when you take the car for a cruise. Step on the pedal, feel the Boost kick in, SMILES ALL DAY.

I would not want to sell the car due to the fact that I would never get half of the investment put into the car and that it makes you smile every time you mash the gas pedal, so parting it out would most likely be my answer.

I would die if I sold it and had some newbie or ricer add junk or hack it up (contrary to how it looks, my setup is very reliable, even if it is made up of alot of junkyard parts and custom made parts that I fabricated). I have so much blood, sweat, and tears in my car I'd rather see it rust into a pile in my yard when it quits running and can't be fixed anymore than sell it to anyone... even a friend who I know wouldn't ruin it. I supposed I am a bit attached to it, I've had it since my senior year of high school.
