Was it the performance, the price, the looks or all of the above? :)

I bought it to learn about mechanics, and boy did I learn - I know jack shit.....but I can still swap a turbo, rewire a fuel pump, and install a clutch - and most things in between without killing myself or the car...

I bought my car because i got beat by one when I had my *cough*v8*cough* 84 monte SS. And since then, I was enfactuated with them, so I just had to get one. Price, Performance and to learn about turbo cars and AWD is a must to have fun with the sledders.

Haa, I had to vote "for the ladies" even though I have a 1G. Most women love my car, though I wouldn't say it "picks them up." I still have to do all the work myself, then the car works its magic later on once they ride in it for the first time. ;)

C'mon now, girls like the 1G's! Oh well, I guess that's why the 2G's are called "girl cars" more often;)

I bought mine cause I saw the Archer's kicking the crap outta every Mustang, Camaro and even some Vette's in the 90's with their Talon's. :takethat: It was then I realized that having a high powered 4cylinder coupled to AWD would be a hard combination to beat on a road course. Proof positive as they won the Championship in 95 with their wingless Talon's.
Wonder where those cars are? And what was really done to them to make them go and handle?
8 years later I still love my car, but she's gonna go bye bye to make room for an Evo.

Got my first 90 TSI by just dumb luck. I was in need of a car and I saw this Eagle sitting on the show room floor. Looked neat, Liked the front styling of the TSI better so I bought it. It wasnt until I started digging around later that I found the intercooler and I thought Boy I bought a real car this time! Later the magazines started to review them giving "BUDGET ROCKET" status. I have never been disapointed with it.:D

I wanted a fast car. Supras are pricey and I am not a domestic guy.:o
No dsm yet, but I will be getting one for speed, mechanical skills (I don't know if this is possible when still in high school), and for the awd in snow. Plus I peronally think that 1gs look good with good paint, clean etc. Run of the mill 1gs don't look so spectacular, but they can be made to look great imo. I am going to try to do all of the work myself.

I bought it primarily to go fast for less, with the secondary goal of picking up some mechanical skills along the way. So far I've spent most of the time I've owned the car fixing it or working on it rather than taking it to the track, driving it around enjoying, and the other activities I mostly bought it for. Oh well, at least I'm learning something

I never really liked imports, but always had a little soft spot for DSMs because my Dad bought a 90 GSX in late '89 when the first hit the market. I always thought it was a fun, quick little car, but had no idea of the potential they had. I was always big on that V8 power and figured some imports could muster up a solid 13 or high 12, but never what I have witnessed to date. My first loss to an import was in my 92 Trans Am by a turbo DSM, but it didn't stomp me that bad and the T/A was only a mid 14sec car, so I didn't get bothered to bad. The final straw was when my 72 Dart Swinger(12sec car) got its ass handed to it at the track by a MKIV TT Supra. So I put the T/A up for sale and started the search for a Supra. Before I purchased one, I made another visit to the track and seen an AWD DSM from Extreme hand a Supra its ass. So knowing the drawbacks to RWD on the street and on regular street tires; I bought a DSM way cheaper than I could of eber hoped to get a Supra and got to keep the T/A. After buying my DSM long after my Dad sold his first, I hammered his Camaro with it and he purchased his second which he still has. Now I have to say I love DSM and they are my favorite car to drive, not the prettiest, but the most fun ;)

Actually, I really wanted a MKIV Supra, and this was before The Fast and The Furious came out, but they were still out of my price range. I wanted a comfortable payment, leaving me enough to spend on mods. Even then Supras carried sky high prices, particularly for a late model 97+ low mileage car that I wanted. Then I decided since I sold Mitsus it would be better for me to actually own one, so I got hot on a 3000GT VR-4. Again price became an issue, and I didn't want to dump too much money into just one car that I probably wouldn't drive much, figuring Mitsu would come out with something new in a year or two that I would REALLY want. Evo was just a rumor then, but I had my hopes. Then a pristine, unmodded, '98 lease turn-in came along, and...the rest is history.

Performance is the main answer. AWD and turbo wasn't an option for the poll. We don't have snow down here, but AWD is a blast in the rain!
Price was secondary. I found mine in a used car lot for $15k about 3 months before the WRX was to be released. So I figured, "$15k and have a used car now, or $25k and have a new car later."

I'm not really sure why I bought mine now. Then: it was because it was a sweet car with AWD and turbo. Now I wish I had bought a truck. I can say it's made me a better mechanic though. I gotta fix something on it at least once a month.:)

I worked at a mitsu dealer when i was 16 and thought the 2g eclipses looked cool and was excited i'd get to drive them. i drove gs-t and gsx's all the time when they were in for service.. I just feel in love with turbo's. I then bought a 1g from a guy at work for $1500 ( couldn't afford a 2g at 17) and the rest is history. now at 20 i bought my 2nd 1g. the combo of AWD, turbo, and inexpensive makes this car perfect for me. oh yea... i'm not a full DSM mechanic :)

funny how the first option was go fast for less, but you didnt factor in the DSM fixing stuff ALL the time factor! Ends up not being all that cheap sometimes...
But yea, assuming everything is in good shape, youve got a 12 second car for next to nothing... (if you are AWD + turbo)

Well, I wouldn't have bought one if it didn't have AWD, and I bought it when I lived in the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado, so you figure it out. :D
The main reason I bought it though, was to have a reliable car (because my Camaro wasn't) that is relatively easy to make fast. It has since been everything I thought it would be and more. :)
To answer the last question on the last page, bcuse guys don't get picked up by chicks.(with cars) Unless they have a 650 bhp exotic....

I'm a newbie on the boards...
The reason I bought a DSM is mainly because I wrecked my previous car. Some stupid girl decided to turn right in front of me and bang...Totaled. (For those that care I had a modded 96 Grand Am GT).
After recieving the insurance check the hunt was on. Ever since the 97-99 body style came out I have been wanting one. And now, I could finally afford it.
I just bought a 1999 Eclipse Spyder GST...best decision I've made to date. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved my Grand Am, but it's time to move on.
The biggest deciding factor for me was the turbo/convertable combo. In the near future I hope to lower it and get the intake/exhaust hooked up.
Previous mods from the Grand Am that are rolling over to this car are the HID's, rims, CD player, etc for now at least.

I wanted a more reliable enclosed car with things like heating and air conditioning to replace my MGB roadster. Since my sweetie liked GSX's and it had a backseat that would fit a car seat (unlike the Supra) then I picked up a TSi AWD (i liked it better)... turns out she was less reliable than my restified MGB... but we are whipping her into shape slowly and expensively :D

This seems to be a long running thread... a good place for my first post. Originally I bought my 98 Eclipse GSX because they are simply mad sexy.
It's kinda of interesting that I find myself in this car, I think I was supposed to have her for a long time and things just had to just come full circle. In 1999 my father and I went a joint pontiac/Mitsubishi dealership so I could pick up my 99 Pontiac Grand AM GT, while we were waiting for the dealer I asked my dad what car he liked on the lot and he said "If I was going to get a car here I'd take one of those over there." pointing to the 99 Eclipses. To which I replied "I don't get a dicount on those, they're foreign and too small anyways (I work for delphi and get a GM discount on cars, also at the time I didn't know that they are probably more domestic than the Grand AM I leased)". I got in my 99 Grand AM and waved goodbye to DSM dreams for 3 years. My lease ended and I was GLAD to be rid of the POS Grand AM, it had mass elecrical issues and an interior that the dealership couldn't seem to keep together... if I had that to do over again I would have gone with at Grand Prix instead.
Now I needed another vehical, I came across an add for an 95 RX7 (I love this car, my uncle had a red 94 RX7) and when I called they said that it had already been sold, and on a whim I asked if they might have an Eclipse or a Supra on their lot. The dealer said "We do have a 98 Eclipse with 29,000 miles on it for 15,000 if your interested." why not, I thought. I went to Cincinnatti the next day and when I saw her it was love at first sight... there she sat looking dead sexy.
I didnt know this would be the beginning of a love hate relationship... my first manual car... my first turbo car... I never had aspirations of becomming a meachanic, but I'd never have it anyother way, struggle and success build love, thanks for reading.

Well it all started 5 years ago. we were car shopping for a buddy who was just about to get his license. we were going from place to place, finally got to one of the last lots we were going to check... i jump out start running around as my buddy begins checking out a cavalier  all the sudden tucked in behind some SUV's there is the back of the sweetest car i have ever seen.. A prestine black 92 laser rs awd with 225's on it none the less.. i stopped in my tracks and called my buddy over... we began to drool over this thing... he said he was going to try to convince his mother that he should get it... at this time i was just starting to get out of biking.. i was already 16 and hadnt bothered to get my final test for my license... all the sudden i was convinced.... i told my mom about it... told her my buddy was going to grab the car but man did i want one.... so i talk to my buddy the next day "dude my mom checked out the insurance on it, its too much, she wont let me get it" im like "dude sorry im buying that car" went with my mom to go check it out.. took it for a drive and about busted a nut...and i hadnt even gave it any gas yet... i begged my mom for a week and we finnally went in early one morn... the owner of the place said that someone was coming in to get it that morning.. i left devistated... tthe guy called me around 2 that day... "the guy canceled" we hoped in the car headed right there.... bought it and smiled the whole way home... and have been ever since.. (well when its not broken).. turns out the thing was mechanically beat on pretty bad.. bad bearing surfaces, replaced a ppiston with one from a NT  but it was my first car and now i have 4.... shortly after bringing it home.. i found clubdsm and read and read... i couldnt believe what a jewel i found.. by mistake.

Well im 20 now and my brother is 25. Back when I was 14 my brother bought his first DSM. A 92 Talon AWD. He started modding it right as Buschur Racing started to hit it off. I caught the bug as well as he did. My dad being a mechanic on Mitsu's for the last 15 years now he also bought a 91 TSi. When turning 16 I had to buy one as well. Now in the family we have...
two 91 TSi's, 91 Talon, 95 Galant. two GVR-4's and a 92 GSX. Ive never owned any other car in my life but my beloved DSM.

It all started when a buddy of mine bought a 91 DL talon. I thought it was cool, and relatively fast. Then, he traded it in on a 95 TSI AWD. He took more for one hell of a ride in that thing, going around 90 degree corners at like 60 MPH and straight aways at 125+. I was hooked. Bought my first 95 tsi awd about a year ago, and i will buy at least 2 more, a first gen and a 97. im on the hunt for one with lower miles if you guys see any.

I bought these because I couldn't afford an Evo and I didn't remember what a Galant VR-4 was
The price, for sure. I wanted a turbo, but when this guy offered me his 2g, one-owner, never driven hard, 130k miles, oil always changed every 3k miles, clean title, interior in unbelievable shape, tuned up regularly....I couldn't resist. Sometimes I regret not getting the turbo, but I need my limits, and the car is a chick magnet so I've fallen in love with my car. It's meh baby, hehe.

Haha....I didn't even know the difference between the Esi & Tsi. A couple in town had a 95 in that light green color and I just feel in love with it!! I saw one in the paper and went and test drove it. I guess I got lucky with it being a TSI. I would have been mad down the road. I went from not even knowing how to change my oil.....to now. This past weekend I tore apart the throttle body on my Starion project. :)
If my car didn't break down all the time, I would just be as clueless as my Toyota driving friends.

When I came back from spending 27 months over in the middle east (Desert Shield/Desert Storm) I had cash in hand ready to buy a new car. I was torn between a Mustang GT, Trans am, or a Talon TisAWD. I believe I had 3 weeks of leave before I went to my next Air Force Base in Florida (I was in Iowa). So off I went to the dealerships.
My first choice was the TA. The Chevy sales people were not helpful and rude so I walked out  . I was fully under the impression the salesman thought I was just a kid (I was 23 though  ) and was wasting their time (bastards weren't doing a damn thing at the time, weekday morning). Little did they realize I had $20,000 in the bank :P
Then I was off to the next dealership who sold both Ford and Eagle...sweet.
They gave me more time, even let me drive both cars. I like the Talon's looks and interior better. The preformance numbers were almost identical, one was a tenth quicker to 60 mph and the other was a tenth quicker to the 1/4 mile. Sadley, they would not negotiate sticker prices :( It was hard walking away because they had the car I wanted. But I had done tons of research and knew what I should be paying.
Lucky for me, there was another Eagle dealership just 60 miles away so off I went the next day. They had the exact same red Talon TsiAWD 5-speed but with the additional sunroof. I haggled my ass off, brought in documents that showed what they paid for the car and the profit margin they should get. It was a tough fight, it ended up with me getting up to leave. He got me to stop and went back to the manger's office for the tenth time (overall, I was there for hours  ) I overheard the sales man call me a son-of-a-bitch which did not make me mad at all, in fact, it made me smile :) . I knew I was getting my price :D
Now, 15 years later (next month ;) ) I still have her and still love her. She in still in new condition with only 87K miles. On the sad side, I don't get to drive her much anymore. In fact, not one mile in the past year and a half. Considering I put 16K miles on her in the first 4 months of ownership, she just doesn't get driven much. She is stored every winter. Currently single with four vehicles.
Now my second Talon TsiAWD was purchased just a few years ago. She is a 92 with 116K and an automatic. She now after years has 120K miles. She is also mint and gets stored in the winters. I need to sell her but just can't bring myself to do it. I can't justify having 3 sports cars that are all stored 1/2 the year. It is a continious nag from the girlfriend. She wants me to sell both Talons and just keep the Vette  . She will be gone before both Talons are gone :D

well i used to just drag my 350z until it kept having electrical problems which were near impossible to fix on my own and i was on my 4th transmission and my warranty was fed up with me and red flagged me. my rationale was to sell the Z and get a car i could throw my warranty worries to the wind with and modify using my cash from the Z sale. Needless to say DSM's are awesome cars with great looks and an impressive engine for modding so with a shep trans already installed in my DSM i didnt see where i could go wrong....

I saw an ad in the paper "Turbo AWD Eagle Talon - 1000" I thought to myself, that sounds fun. Go to look (Keep in mind I'd never seen one of these before, a 1G) and just thought that I had to have this car. It looks so friggin sweet. And this thing was absolutely MINT, One owner since 15k miles (155k now). While having a boosted Civic(fully built), I had mentioned about considering getting a DSM to a friend. Then he told me everything I needed to know about Eclipses. Well pretty much, the pros simply outweighed the cons. I had no idea that those blocks were built with high performance in mind. It was also appealing that there were no need for sleeves, for the block was cast iron(I love iron). And being the boost-happy fiend that I am, I was even elated that with the proper mods and tuning, I could run up to 20+psi on the street without having to rebuild the motor every 20k-30k miles!!! I have always wanted a forced inducted ride for awhile now. I have only gotten a taste of it in the Civic before it shortly blew on me, then got repoed when I lost my previous job. At first, I had an envy for turbo cars. I never really growed up being in a boosted ride, well maybe once and that was a Saab. We didn't really get to enjoy the car for too long, for the turbo went out, prompting my dad to just get rid of it. A few years ago, my friend gave me a ride in his turboed Integra GSR(Drag Gen 3). When he showed me what a turbo can really do, I was hooked, causing me to turbo the Civic that I had at that time. Unfortunately, I had to learn the reality of having a high performance car. And that was maintainance. In the end, I ended up losing everything; the car, the turbo and all. It was one of the most, if not, the most painful thing I had ever experienced. And on top of that, I learned that I was getting ripped off of various parts, including labor. Come on, $1300.00 for installing a turbo kit??? Well after 2 years of living in shame, I have decided to get back into the thing I love the most... Cars!!! This time, on a DSM platform. A much stronger foundation to build upon. Now you see.

I was looking for a turbo Mr2 and found one but they wanted way too much for it 10k for a 91 LOL. (the only turbo Mr2 in Rapid City S.D. maybe Ha) anyways,
a buddy of mine used to own a 1g and i really liked it so i stared to look for one(the price was right on a dsm also)
they had quite a few 1g dsm around but all of them had blown turbos or were in shitty shape. till one day i found one just traded in at a local dealer the owner still inside trading it in on a new 4runner.
i took it for a drive and came back and wrote a check. 76k on the clock (and clean in and out).

I obtained a DSM (first one was a freebie), because a friend had one and I enjoyed the power and the sound of it. He got me hooked on them and after my first rally race (spectating), I decided it was time to check into buying one. After talking with a few people, I got my first one, but it is a non-turbo 5 speed. Two days later I was told by a coworker that he knew a guy selling one for a nice price, so I jumped on it. I don't have the car in my posession yet, but it is an AWD turbo 5 speed. Can't wait to add a few mods to get that special sound that I love!

Because I'm super cheap and super broke (jobless teenager) and I am obsessed with fast cars and modding....Strongly dislike ricey cars, and can't stand N/A modding, so turbo was the only way to go....
2 dsm's later and way too much $$$, and its taken over my life and wallet...But, hey, what do I care, sure turns heads and scares little children so I don't feel so guilty about spending my life savings so far :P

now i bought this one because it was just like my first one, which is belonged to my father. i never should have sold the one i got from my dad, so i bought another to have that feel again. although this one isnt quite as nice, its the same color, and its turbo

because I wanted a 3/s and my parents wouldn't let me because its "too fast". my dad found some site that said, "the dodge stealth is so fast it would make a pregnant woman want to speed." and decided I could never own one. everyone on 3si.org was saying, if you need a winter beater, get a 1g dsm, they are awd, turbo, and really cheap. I found one in san fransisco, and while my dad was out of town (key) asked my mom if we could go look at it. she was going to the city anyways that day, and she said she would go while I was at school. she bought it without even asking me or anything, because it reminded her of her 1982 vw sciricco. I dunno how a turbo awd dsm reminds someone of a vw, especially that sohc pos, but somehow it did. my dad was PISSED, and I knew nothing about dsm's. I have since forgotten almost everything I knew about 3/s because all that space has been filled with.... well I think you know...

I would say it was beacause i wanted to become my own mechanic. I would also say that it is the AWD plus snow (I live in North Dakota). I would also say i Loved the looks (2G) and I would also like to say that it was the fact that the trubo was already installed so more bang for the buck. i would also say the price was right (6500).
But honestly I started reading car mags since b4 i even had my drivers license, so I had read all about how bad as a vehicle they were. ever since I can remember, I dreamed of owning a DSM. 2G Talon to be exact, and the Tsi AWD was a must, along with a 5 speed. In ND it was very hard to find this car, and if you did 99 percent of the time they were either automatics.....WHY? or way to over priced. Well it wasnt until I was 19 years old until I actually had to total my Blazer out to be able to be coupled with my dream. I have loved every min. of it and would trade it in for nothing, and I have absolutly no plans in the future of ever getting rid of it. Even if I did get a new car down the road, I dont think I could part with it. I have huge rebuild plans for when I get home from Iraq later this year. Stay tuned!

Well naturally i wanted a Mitsubishi since i knew parts and the know how was right infront of me 247. Plenty of cars to choose from, my first ride was an 88 mirage turbo. Then i found out why i had such a cheap evo 3 when it died 2 months after i bought it, nice hole in the block right now. Then finally, a blue automatic lazer 2.0 nt. It had some 99 chrome spyder wheels that are now on my friends 97 gst. Then i found a 1.8l auto eagle with a sunroof! And now my 1994 GS 2.0 six bolt swap. My old neighbor was real smooth and we rebuilt a 91 or 92 3000vr4 thats a sweet ride ive gotten to drive

I got mine out of pity! My brother-in-law has a Supra fixed up for track use only and has been working on cars for about 15 years. One day after he drove my civic, he felt bad that I was driving such a slow car and then decided to give me a 90 TSI. So now, I'm fixing this car and trying to make it as fast as my pocket could afford.
So, my answer would be cheap and fast!... Well not that cheap.

at the time I was driving a 98 Escort ZX2 and was preparing to turbo it. when a co worker bought an EVO and needed to make room for it so he was selling his 1g. Just out of curiosity i took it for a test drive, it had some decent mods, small 16 and a few smaller things. I drove it home the next day. It was later I discovered how fun it was to take out big motor domestice as well as the fun in the snow (we get our share here in NH) Aside from the few hiccups we've had together it's been a nice relationship. I've been told i should sell it and get something reliable. But then what would I do with all the spare parts laying around. And what would come of my relationship with the guys at Auto Zone if I didnt have to make a monthly trip there? The DSM is here to stay.

10-29-2006, 07:44 PM
I had a '96 neon SOHC Automatic that I converted to Manual... then aafter that I got bored and decided to test drive a '95 Talon TSi FWD. It was private owner, and they did not ride along. I went to the local area where all the race-cars met to toy around on back roads, and I took the Talon out there to see how it would do. Spanked a vette, a nitrous-fed RSX, a m3, a WS6, and a STi. I was in LOVE! I took the car back, told the owner "I'll think about it..." gave him my phone # and asked if he could come down on the price. He was asking 8000. He called me the next day and explained that he owed $4100 in child support payments, and that he needed to pay that ammount to stay out of jail, which he was sceduled for the end of the week. I offered him $4500 and although he was not thrilled about it, he accepted. So I drove my pretty new '95 TSi FWD home - lots of loving times stomping things in that car until the flywheel exploded.. now I have had a '95 TSi AWD, '91 Eclipse GSX, and now a '92 Eclipse GSX.

Well, I found my 1997 GSX for $7995 on Ebay...half across the country. lmao I'm from just outside of Kansas City, and FLEW, yes...FLEW to Connecticut to buy it!! hahaha I couldn't pass it up (plus I had my girl friend of about 2 days with me, once she saw the car she wanted to wrestle in the sack). It had 10 miles over 70k at the time, and absolutely no paint imperfections at all. The motor was spotless (like the exterior), tranny shifted great, and tires were in good condition. Looked like it had been garaged a lot of it's life. Hell, the guy even had his receipts and a running log of maintainence from oil changes and tune ups, to other minor repairs. When I started it, it purr'd like a sleeping kitten. No hiccups, check engine light, oil burning. WOW...too good to be true?? Thing is, 4 hours after I passed the cash and was on my way back to KS, I was T-boned. Yea, can you believe it? Some asshole ran a red light. BUT...I made out GREAT. The insurance company said the physical damage total didn't exceed the 75% value of the car, so they repaired the body. Well, in the course of repairing it, they noticed that the sub frame had a small dent in it, not affecting anything, but to repair it, would total the car. So, the body was freshly painted, car aligned, and even a new wheel and tire given. The insurance company gave me $10,000 for the car (what it KBB'd at), and told me the salvage value of the car was $1,600. So, do the math: Cost of car, $8,000, salvage value, $1,600...I ended up with $400 in my pocket, and NO car payments!!!! How lucky is that?? lmfao course...I learned very quickly of the infamous crank walk and had it rebuilt soon after...overall...an awesome deal :D

Mine was sorta an accident.
I wasn't planning on getting involved with Mitz again, since I did have a Dodge Colt with the 4G32B motor and a Dodge Caravan with the 4G67 V6 in it.. I wanted to go back to Toyota real bad.
I had a 87 Dodge Aries sedan that was thinking on giving me fits, thus I went to a side road car lot and was looking at a small Toyota truck of sorts. By the office building sat this 'sports car' that had the headlights popped up, tires on the thing all mismatched and worn and with a nice interior. The "child' inside of me wanted a sports car..since I did have Mustangs, and Celicas before.
Car door was open,so I sat in the thing and was immediately taken how comfortable this unit was. I asked the dealer how much this car was (for I though it was going to be over 3 grand) and he mentioned that he needs to unload it for 500 bucks - due to the autotranny bell housing was broken and it had it's day in shifting.
I still took it out for the spin and was compeletely in love with the car..in which I found out it was a 91 Base Eclipse with the 1.8L. I went ahead and bought the thing and replaced the tranny in it, put new tires on it, cleaned it up and put 27k miles on it before I sold it to a fellow worker of mine who blew the A420 motor in his NEON by not checking the oil as he should have.
Being without a Eclipse for a good year, I got to learn more about the DSM's and the history of these vehicles to where I had to get me another one..and I did with my '90 that I tagged for 800 bucks that needed a new motor (once again the 4G37 motor. version).
My father asked me if I like the new 4g Eclipses, and I flatly said "NOPE" due to that they just don't have the looks and appeal as the 1g's do .. let alone the price of them...
Now, my next project - keeping an eye on a TSI-AWD (if I can find the proprietor who owns the place that this car is located in...) to do a rebuild on...and really have some FUN!!

I bought mine because of reputation and what I've seen done with them. They can be extremely fast without breaking the bank, they're easy to work on, they're great in the snow/rain/dry, handle great, they can be sexy, they're great winter cars (heater), with the proper mods they can be STINK FAST. My brother has a 90 which probably has about 12k in mods and is as I like to describe it, it's "scary fast"!!!!
Most of all it's so I can share and hang with you all! :bsflag:

You cant really beat that the 4G63 has been around this long and with so much success that a major automotive company would keep it for this many years. The only thing is that things break but if a Honda had the power of a DSM it would be on jackstands or down all the time too.

I fell into the dsm trap by mistake.
I needed a new car right after highschool because my previous car before that was a lemon. Plus i had stupidly bought a crappy 95 240sx that hardly ever worked and sold it quickly, and continued driving my crappy 94 Saturn Sl sohc pos passed down from a family memeber.
I always had the urge to have power... Didnt neccesarily have to be going 130+ mph but i just liked power, i didnt like getting passed by old ladies in caravans and lincolns.. ( Yes my saturn was that slow.)
In my search of a new car after graduation ( had 700 graduation money and plus saved about a G from working.) I couldve went to different car lots and got something else but the one i ended up going to was the cheapest around... I first test drove a Dodge stealth Rs ( idk it was nonturbo v6 24valve.) I thought it was powerful at that time. But turned out being 800 dollars out of my price range and I needed a car now. Nothing else at the dealer caught my eye except for this very cheap non turbo 1g GS for sale. It had fresh paint and was very clean. I didnt even know what a DSM was at the time, i just knew it was a 1st generation Eclipse and it was twin cam 2.0 stick shift so figured itd be a good project car.
I got the car knowing very very little about cars in general, and all i managed to do on my previous car was install a intake and exhaust and a sound system and rims. I was all into the looks department then, ( fast and the furious was the only car movie I had lol.)
The car was pretty fun to me at the time but everything started falling apart piece by piece by piece. I got tired of paying shady mechanics a bunch of money to fix my car so i could stay on the rode, so I started slowly reading up and learning how to fix things myself. And what a long process that was.
After driving the non turbo Eclipse GS around for about a year I got tired of its slowness and more and more turbo cars were starting to hit the streets.
This made it even worse after realizing i had a turbo awd option and wished thats what mines had...Plus id be different because turbo dsms werent popular in my city but they were definitly spoken of. Up to that point i had only seen 2 or 3 turbo models and they were like legendary unicorns to me at the time because id never see them again even when i looked for em.
( Probably ended up broken down now that i think about it.)
I felt that a non turbo 4g63 was inadequate for my needs even as a daily driver. I was even getting beaten by puny modded civics and their vtecs at stop light confrontations and I NEVER was enthusiastic about Hondas.
If I had gotten beaten by a mustang, Camaro or something V8 i wouldnt mind as much because i knew they were quick since my father ( who i never really lived with.) used to do the muscle car thing and had a built Vega for Drags.
So time to get my feet wet... I learned about the dsm websites and spent countless hrs researching how to do a turbo conversion and meeting up with dsmers who had parts and knew a thing or two, befriending two Dsm guys who really taught me so much and i owe a LOT of my knowledge and sucess to them.
A half a year a later the car was turbocharged with a stock dsm 14b/smic setup with full exhaust, lightened flywheel, and fuel pump and a few other things. I had gotten my first taste of turbo. It felt good... This was fast to me at the time, and hearing the turbo spool up was so intrigueing .
But unreliability factors kept me broke for the next 6 or 7 months as i had job issues and having to constantly fix and further mod the car.
Eventually i was running 13s on the now converted GST 1g.
It was wicked quick on the high way but i grew frustrated with the poor traction. First gear was pointless and 2nd gear was getting to that point.
Most of my dsm friends were AWD and everytime they took me on a launch i wanted a gsx. Thoughts of doing a AWD conversion now filled my head but i knew the difficulty wasnt in my favor- unlike doing the gst tranny/motor swap and turbo conversion.
I began to grow tired of dsm and wanted out; looking for someone to buy my car.... Then at the right time when i finally found someone to buy it, my close dsm friend who taught me half the dsm stuff i know, decied he was selling his and needed it sold asap. His was already a 12 something second pump gas 16g AWD laser that was reliable and well maintenanced...
I thought over and over for days whether i should buy his car and enjoy AWD, or get out of the scene and never look back. Plus i had convinced myself up to that point that i hated the body styling of the Plymouth lasers but on an impulsive move to get a car to drive as i got rid of mines which was smoking and needed a new turbo and new axles and etc, i decied to gone and buy it just on the fact that i knew the laser was fairly reliable and fun to drive since i had rode in it a few times up to that point.
That was a little over a year ago that i bought the AWD laser.
Now I have been a DSM'er for 3 whole years.
To sum it up i had one year driving a non turbo GS, one year driving it as a converted GST, and my 3rd dsm year driving a AWD. I have modified it even further, and jumped it up another 40-50 whp since i first bought it. Having no major issues with it; Iam now just a 'further' upgraded clutch away from breaking into the 11s with my evo316g... After that goal is reached i plan on doing a very mild turbo upgrade ( 20g, or fp3052 or something along those lines ) and aiming to make a decent yet comfortable 400-450 awhp on either meth of E85 if it comes in my area and then retireing my dsm modding days for good. That will be either by me keeping the dsm being content with what it had up to that point and just getting another car and having the Dsm as a weekend toy as i continue thru college. Or by moving on with my life all together.
So far thats my Dsm story.

First fast car I rode in was my buddy's FWD 93 Talon TSi, it was blue, beatiful, and fucking fast. It was way quick to me. Had a 16g traction loss in 3rd gear was just beyond belief for me at the time. I kinda fell in love with them after that, and the sound it made..... oh yeah. I ended up buying a 91 TSi FWD still have it, and a 92 Galant VR4 that is a work in progress.
I basically love the whole feel of the cars, beautiful exhaust sound, nice body lines, easy to make fast... all of it.

Hi guys, I bought my DSM in 2006 here in Germany from a man in Hamburg who imports 2G`s on private ways.
I am infected with the japan/nippon poison and love the turbo engines from the little eastern isle.
I knew I wanted a supra, any honda or a 2G...
Finally it became the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GST from 99.
I had this car with 21 years, not every freak here has a car like this in this age.
It looks so beautiful, I fell in love when first saw it with my eyes.
Here in Germany everyone breaks his neck just to see this car when it drives by.
Of course the Turbo was very important to me.
The cabrio-look is just a bonus to me :)

I was about 8 years old when my uncle purchased a 95 GSX brand new from the dealership. I loved to watch people drive stick so he took me for a ride and as soon as it hit 3000rpm I heard the turbo spool and the car pull and I've been freakishly obsessed with DSM's ever since.

I owned a 3G Eclipse GT (210 horses 5spd premium package) and loved the performance and aftermarket variety. Also Mitsu. builds very nice tuning cars, so i went w/a 2G Eclipse.

I am a glutton for punishment with deep pockets.. LOL..... Naw.. I bought it to pick up chicks.... still kidding..
I thought that the Eclipse Spyder GS-T (woohoo, Convertible in a stat that it rains 9 months of the year) is a nicely shaped car, in the price range I wanted to pay for a DD, with a turbo, and still gets great gas mileage. I thought she'd be a pretty book end to my Supra.. For me, my eclipse is mainly just a fun sporty daily driver..
Its only a cool little side note that I own both types of cars Paul Walker owns in Fast and The Furious

I seen a 1g broke on the side of the road, i screamed i want that car as i drove by...
Been into then since. Though i wish i did not see that first one and said that.
I had just started a full time job and was looking for a newer, sporty, more reliable car than I had (little did I know...ironic huh?) My buddy Ryan had a 98 GST and I took a ride in it, and I've loved them since.
