I guess the mustang was all bark and very little bite! :) That is a very good time for a stealth RT/TT from what I have seen!

Well i finally took my car to the strip for the first time this weekend. My real goal was to beat my buddy who has a stock twin turbo stealth vr4.
My best run was when i ended up getting staged against this black 5.0 with black tinted windows. It had a hood with a big backwards looking scoop that went all the way back tho the windshield. The exhaust sounded real mean.
While i was waiting at the tree he was busy smoking his tires in a LOUD and lenghty burnout. I was only a bit intimidated, but really anxious. This car definetly wasn't stock and i knew i would have to give it my best.
As we waited for the tree i kept it at 5000rpm showed the v-8 what an AWD launch was. I took him by several car lengths off the line and kept it that way to the finish.
I ran 13.80 @96.5mph to his 14.61 @87mph. It was really the launch that made the race. I had a 1.8 60ft to his 2.6 60ft. I even think he had a bad launch, though i never had the chance to talk to him to find out. Thats OK, I'm just gald i got to show up a hotshot in a mustang.
All this with a stock 14b @21psi peak, a modded mas, an upgraded and rewired fuel pump, and a k&n. I am still running the stock exhaust. (plus stage III block and head, which probably aren't worth more than a tenth or so at my current hp)
I never did beat the stealth. he had a best of 13.65 @99.98mph. not bad for being bone-stock.
If i don't get an exhaust before i go again i think i am going to unbolt the stock exhaust right befor the cat. That oughta get me some much better times.

That mustang just didn't had a chance! :D Remember it wasn't only the launch, you was also going 9 mph faster than him through the traps!
About running 21 psi with stock exhaust and pump gas...
Don't do it again unless you want to self-destruct your engine! Remember the stock exhaust is not up to the task of handling 21 psi. You have a upgraded and rewired fuel pump but leaning out is not the only way your engine might detonate. The stock exhaust is too restrictive and with 21psi the cyl temperatures will be very hot, trow some pump gas to that very hot cylinder and.....BOOM! there goes your head gasket or pistons.
I'm pretty sure that you where detonating through that whole run. You know why? 96 mph is low trap speed for a 13.8 and 21 psi. Check my signature, I'm also running 96 mph through the traps and I'm only running 15 psi with just a K&N and a mbc, stock fuel pump stock MAS. Get at least an exhaust before boosting 21 psi again.
Just my $.02

Actually i was running 100 octane. I probably should of mentioned that. And that 21 psi couldn't be maintained, it would quickly fall to around 17 psi at higher rpms. I do have a knock sensor led and i never lit it off ( i know it's not the trustiest form of saftey). An egt and exhaust are certainly priority. I'm looking for a used 2.5in without any luck.

Just checked my spark plugs, There were a few specs of aluminum, so it definetly got hot in there. I don't think i really detonated, though.

13.8/96mph seems pretty normal for an *AWD*. If you check out http://www.times.dsm.org it doesn't seem out of line. For a FWD, 96mph tends to be in the high 14s. Gsxalex had .7 seconds on you just from the 60 foot times :-)
As far as detonation -- the knock sensor led is really more of a longterm item. It's not based on realtime knocksensor values. It's a longterm value that's built up over time (like due to low octane gas). At least for a 1G. If you're seeing aluminum on the plugs, that's a bad thing :-(.

Don't get me wrong, its not like there was more than a spec here and there. I really need an egt to see what was really happening. Also, those specs may have been caused before i rewired the fuel pump. Does anyone know if there is a way to tap directly into the knock sesor? I will post this question in the techtalk section, so if you have an answer, post it there.

Well, low rpm's+high psi+stock exhaust=detonation.
21 psi couldn't be maintained at high rpm's, that's because the stock exhaust is choking at high rpm's. detonation usually occurs at low-mid rpm's. If your car would spike to 21 psi before 5000 rpm's that migh cause detonation. Even with 100 octane gas you shouldn't run more than 16 psi or so with a stock exhaust.

Or you could turn down the boost :-). If you are detonating (and assuming the knock sensor is working) then the ECU is retarding timing on you anyways. Lowering the boost and getting the timing back might actually be faster...

Well i changed the setup a bit tonight. I lowered boost to 20 psi and unbolted my cat and back. 13.568@ 97 with a 1.79 60ft. I should be getting a real exhaust soon, and when i do i will put in my tre ported 14b...YES!

Isn't that number 1 on the Bill Marino (Rdy2race) top 10 list :-)
