As most of you know the Nissan Skyline GT-R is the big boy on the block over here in Japan. Most people try there hardest to beat these cars so they can tell a kill story or two. I'm no exception. Do not take this post the wrong way. GT-R's are by no means slow. There are some seriously fast daily driven GT-R's over here. A good friend of mine ownes a blue LM edition V-Spec(Lm editon's only come in blue) that runs 10.2's in street trim.
The VR-4 is running great. Even with a leaking head gasket. I had rebuilt the engine about a month before and had tightened the head bolts useing the torque values in a stateside manual instead of Japanese spec's.....what a mistake. Ever 2 full powered, full boost 1/4 mile runs I would have to stop, let things cool off and pour my coolent from my catch can(that is now full) back into my radiator. So its Friday afternoon, I get off work, stop by the Mitsu dealer and pick up a head gaskit with plans to change it the neaxt day. Later that night I decided to head down to the local drag seen (Hacinoha city)and check things out. I raced some small timer's, emptied my catch can back into the radiator and raced again. One of my Japanese friends has a friend with a GT-R who wants to race. This guy's got upgraded turbo's, computer, intercooler...the whole nine yards. I though I would get waxed. I tell him about the head gaskit and show him my new one in the back seat as proof,...I want him to know im not trying to make excuses. I agree as long as he gives me a handicap of one car lenth. I can smoke all GT-R's off the line because of the GT-R's delay of about 1 second in the AWD Attesa system. I figure this should give me enough head start. So I pull up to the line with his front bumper lined up with my rear bumper.....my blood is pumping,....the starter drops his arms and we both drop our clutches off the rev limiter. I pull about three cars right of the line, in second he pulls his front bumper right up to my rear door,...third I pull till his front bumper is at my rear bumper, I slam forth while he's still in thrid, and when he go's to slam forth I pull about a car lenth or two on him. By now its time to brake and make a u-turn back to the hang out. "Whats that" I say...."you want to race again....with no handicap this time?" OK. So we go back to do it again with no handicap start. The results of the second race were a little closer but I still beat him. The guy was real supprised to see me emptying my catchcan, and I asked him if he wanted to race again tommorrow night after I changed the head gaskit...he declined. The next day to my suprise when I pulled the head off I found out that all cylinders were leaking into the water jackets. Just go's to show you the power of the MITSU.
