Ok, this is the story i've been waiting to tell.
There is a guy in racine that i have been rivals with for some time. He just got a 2000 mustang gt 3 months ago and i've had my eclipse for awile now.
Well as some of you may know already, im planning on moving to california in two weeks. Well there is one thing i wanted to do badly before i left, and that is to run against Mike in his new mustang gt. I just wanted to leave on the note that through all the sh!t he's talked about me, i was still ahead of him.
So I end up at a bar tonight, that i only go to once in a while out in the middle of nowhere, when who just happens to be there but Mike and LOTS of his freinds.
They see me park through the window as they point and laugh.
I enter the bar and proceed to play cool with every one, since i know all his freinds and they all respect me in one way or another.
Now just so you know i did have a few drinks at a bar earlier tonight, but while my freinds get sh!tty, i am the one who stays sober so i don't have to worry about anyone else driving. I like driving anyways.
So anyways, i start talking to all these guys and they bring up the point that it is cool that my eclipse is running but it can't touch Mike's mustang. So i chuckle and say that i've beaten many mustangs at the track(true) and i proceed to show my timeslips to back up my words.
Now these guys must not understand what a timeslip represents. They all look at me and continue to flaunt mike and his mustang. Mike even starts talking sh!t about how his car can beat mine and i just say, " well 5.0's are running low 15's or high 14's with a bit of modification, and i kill them at the track".
So the words elevate and before i know it, im out checking mike's "hot" mustang under the hood and angain i warn him, "You only have a k&n and i will beat you". All his freinds are talking like they know what they are talking about and telling me the v-8 is going to kill me. One of his freinds even tells me he used to have a talon, and he "knows" the v-8 will kill me. So i tell him he should have kept the turbo talon, cause he would have been faster. He laughs and flaunts the mustang even more. So i show my car under the hood and even count the spark plugs so everyone knows with out a doubt that i have only four cylinders.
Well by now mike is flashing $20's and says he has $180 to bet against me. Unfortunately i only have a $5 in my wallet and i show him and say i can't legitimatly bet him but i wouldn't want to take his hard earned money. So he says, "loser buys a round of shots!".
Ok, im low on cash and could use a shot by now. All i really wanted to do is ruin his pride anyways.
Finally we get staged after some railroad tracks on some vacant country road only a mile or so from the bar. The agreed finish line is an intersection with a streetlight (not a stoplight) about a 1/4 mile away from the tracks.
His freind throws his arms down for the go (i feel like I'm in the movie "grease" right about now) and i proceed to STOMP him off the line, (thank you AWD) and pull about 4 car lenghts on him right away, then continue past the intersection at about 8 or 10 car lengths and continue to pull slowley away till about 130 mph.
By now the race is over-done and i slow to a stop at the side of the road. He pulls up with window down and i ask, "alright, so what do you say???"
He immediatly admits defeat and says i won, and then peels out on his way back to the bar.
Well me and all my freinds got a nice shot of tequila to toast to.
Suddenly all Mikes freinds just knew i had the faster car and continued to commend me on my win. I shrug it off as "just another mustang" and watch as all these brainless followers try to get brownie points with me. At least they were buying my drinks.
What a bunch of...
Ok, i wont talk sh!t, but thank god i'm moving out of here!!!

Thanks for all the great comments.
mospeed, If you only have FWD you are very traction limited compared to me. And if you and your buddy were already rolling when you started to race, you would need to spool your turbo, but he would have instant throttle response.
BTW i have enough mods to run high 13's.

Cool, you guys rock, can't wait to meet you all. I'm leaving in 5 days and it should be about a 5 day drive(checkin out the scenery along the way).
From the sound of it i think i will miss WI because no one here knows how fast our cars are. Then again there aren't that many people here with fast cars anyways.
What am i saying, i can't wait to leave this place!!!

Very cool story Alex! I raced a 99 GT 5spd in my 99 GSX with basic performance upgrades.
I beat him bye a couple of lenghts in about 1/4 mile so I can vouch for your story.

Nice Kill GSXALEX.
You're lucky to move to San Dog. I used to visit when I was in the Navy and loved it. I took back all the shit I said about the West coast (being from NY). Cali is cool as hell. Have fun.
MoBoost,
Newer Rustangs are supposed to run 99-100mph in the 1/4 so they are kinda quick. I've beaten 2 new ones myself with a slipping stk clutch, but was happy to have pulled on them at top end thanks to my BIG16G. With a DP (w/ no cat!) and an AFC and you will notice a BIG difference in hp gain.

At GLD on opening day.
How bout it!
Not all stangs are slow and late model modular stangs are not low 15 cars. Stock for stock they will take each and every one of you in the quarter with the same drivers.

You're right, not all of them are slow. Most of the ones that DSMers run into are sometimes even if not slower. I have seen fast ones at the track, but it's rare to run into one on the street.
What times does your Mustang run with all those mods?
Very cool story. One of the best I have seen so far. I can't belive so many Mustang owners are so ignorant about our cars. I guess it just adds to the fun of beating one. www.dsmtalk.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif So far I've only raced one Mustang GT and he sure was surprised when I beat him. But he was a really cool guy and really wanted to know what made this cars tick.

They are ignorant because they choose to be ignorant. I prefer IMports over any domestic but I chose to educate myself on what these domestics do to make there cars fast and what they are capable of. Alot of times I assume that I'm gonna beat the next Domestic i pull up to (I have beaten 8 out of 10)but also know not to be suprised if I get my ass handed to me. No biggy. It happens. But I'm not a sore loser about it like some domestic drivers can be. Not all of them though.

Hey guys be careful out there!
My original post on this thread was a hint. Don't fall into the same trap that some V8 owners have. MY CAR IS INVINCIBLE. And don't judge cars based on a streat race with an unknown driver under uncertain conditions.
When you beat a Stang. That's great! Just don't get cocky and think that every car with similar mods will perform the same. New GT's with a good driver are way'yyy under the 15's with some into the 13's (STOCK)(FULLY STOCK)(WITHOUT MODS)(NO CHANGES)(NO NOT EVEN A K&N FILTER). I haven't heard of a single DSM that can say the same thing. Although there may be some out there.
I have both types of cars. I have to admit that my Eclipse is surprising. Keep modding those DSM cars. I love having some challenging cars at the strip.
There is something VERY COOL about having a "neck and neck" drag down the 1/4 mile.
I usually get wasted by the "Big Dogs" from around here. A worked up TT Supra, smoked me in the stang. I can handle that, he was running 10's.
BTW: Last year I ran a 12.9 @110.6 with the stang, Granny Shifting. That was just after installing all the stuff and running a very rich tune and only 4-5 lbs of boost. This year I will be seeing 9-10 lbs (7" crank pulley), a new clutch, and a custom burned chip that will allow more initial timing without having to worry about blowing up the motor. I am hoping for very low 12's or high 11's. All this on premium pump gas, driving to the track, lower pressure in the drag radials, and then driving into the staging lanes.

Not that I doubt you, but a fully stock GT off the show-room floor in the 13's?? Thats at what sea-level....-5,000 or with slick's? My friend's 98 cobra runs 13's with a couple light mod's. How much HP do they have and their weight's? Sorry man, I'd just have to see it. And no one is being cockey saying their cars are some kind of Lambo's. Later,

Oh well, there is nothing like seeing it in person!
There is no way to prove anything on a board like this. If I post a slip, then people will think that the car was modded. Yada yada yada
The 99GT is a fast car, bone stock. With the proper driver , as fast or faster than the 98 Cobra.
Think what you want!
No more said from this side.
Be safe this summer.

IN NO WAY IS A 99GT AS FAST AS A 98 COBRA.
Stock for stock gt beating a cobra means cobra can't drive. I nearly beat a gt with my mom's saab wagon.

Not trying to mag race but look in MM&FF. They got a 13.7 with a bone stock Gt on a good day. Go to the stang boards and ask the 99+ 4.6 guy what they've run stock. "Some" have dipped into the 13's stock at over 100mph. They'll gladly show you timeslips as well.
It can be done.

i've gotten a personal best of 14.1 in my stang in stock form 2000 gt. the mods i did only dropped me a couple of tenths. i never & i mean never had a good launch. i have seen 13.7's & 13.8's with the showroom stickers still on them. 5.0 is 100% correct. it can be done.
