So my friend and I were heading up to the local race spot (about 20 miles from our town). Anyways, he is in his Z28 and I'm in my 97 GST. He is always making fun of my "slow car", my "4 banger", my "rice car" etc. He is always so busy making fun of my car, but we have never really raced.
We get on the freeway. He was following me on my a--, like usual. He gets beside me revving his engine while shouting "slow! slow! So I finally give in. At about 70-75, we go at it. He drops it into 3rd and gets about a hood length in front of me, my boost climbs up and I stay with him for a while and then start to pass him slowly. 100mph comes around and I'm about 1.5 cars on him. The exit to get off the freeway is coming up, so we better slow down.
Later we pull into a gas station and talk about it. He says "Wow, you're faster than I thought...but you're still a rice boy." "Were you in 3rd gear the whole time?"

........I answered smiling "No, 5th."

Are there any differences between the 96 and 97? They both have the LT1...

Good kill!

From the sound of it, I'd say that he has a '96.

Oh... My bad. I thought that the '97 model was the first year that they offered the LS1. If that was the case, the race would have been quite a bit different. Those LS1's are beasts.

The 97 Vettes were the first with the LS1, then the F-bodys got it in 98. And actually, stock LS1 vs. LT1, yah the ls1 would rock its world. But I've heard from Fbody know-it-alls that the lt1 is prefered for upgrading cause the internals are better.... or something. :)
