Hello all,
I've been hearing people mentioning using truck intercoolers from the larger intercooled trucks. Is there anything to stay away from when buying one of these? Also, does anyone know the difference between the different manufacturers intercoolers that were OEM on the trucks? If you have any info drop me a line please post up!

im not sure if this would be a good idea as they might be designed to cool well, but probably aweful pressure drop.

i like the looks of a 944 turbo ic, or maybe even a bmw turbo diesel?

just find a starion/conquest for $50

Well I've been looking at a few units at local parts yards and they all are too tall. Is it possible to cut off a few inches off the top and install custom endtanks in order to make it fit?

Will a Starion/Conquest intercooler fit on a 2G?

Yes the starion/conquest will fit a 2G. it will not flow more than stock, but it will cool a little better. heres a link I think explains it best.

i dont see why not. chop some hieght of and put custom endtanks with nice big juicy 2.25 or 2.5" pipes. go to RRE and see how tall the endtanks they sell are and try to chop your ic to fit maybe!?

But here we get into the price issue:

lets say you get a F-series I/C new from Ford (Stupid I know, that why theres junk yards). They run around 200-250 IIRC. They're huge, like 30 x 12 or so. So you get someone to chop off the ALUMINUM end, kinda pricey. Then you get some ends. Lets say 2 HKS's at $70 ea. Then you get someone to weld the steel ends to ALUMINUM, quite pricy. Parts only would be $340-400, then you have to pay the welder.

The Griffen w/ ends at RRE costs $475.

Now, if you find a junked i/c at a gullable yard for cheap, it'd be a good deal.

I've never heard of steal endtanks. You cant weld aluminum to steal.
