So I'm just driving my stock 97 GST home from work when I notice a BMW M3 sedan with clears about 500 feet behind me. I get all excited because I have never raced an m3 before, but still thinking I will lose. Going at 40 mph, he caiches up to me. We both glance at each other thinking the same thing. We both drop it into 3rd. Since 40 mph is a little to low of speed in 3rd gear, the boost takes a second to wake up. He gets about a car length on me (I'm thinking it's all over for me) To my suprise, boost jumps to about 12 psi and I fly by him (hearing his roaring exhaust)like he was standing still. 5700 rpms in 3rd and I'm about 4 to 5 car lengths ahead of him. I couldn't believe it... I'm was confused.

Later, I looked in some mags and saw that the M3 is 3200lb 240hp 0-60 in 5.6, 1/4mile in 14.0sec. top speed in 3rd is only 94mph. Thats close to the same weight, faster to 60mph and the 1/4 mile. GST 3rd gears go to 103 mph I think. He would of obviously kill me in a race from a stop but still...I don't get it. oh well, turbos are good.

watch out.. for 2001 the M3 we get is the same version that europe gets.. 333hp ~ roughly the same weight. A friend of mine has a 283hp Canadian M3 here in the states. Sweet cars

Nice work.

A friend has an M3 (auto)...won't say it was a real race, but he was in front of me at the light....he zoomed out of the light, I floored it, got a a nice start...turbo whining and I pulled up on the side of him. Surprisingly easy, then I zoomed in front of him.....not sure if he really was pushing, but sure seemed like he was trying. My car was stock at the time btw.

Hey CAZZO, first of all, nice car.
second, At the time of the M3 fun, my 97 GST was stock besides free mods, K&N drop in filter, and a spiffy shift knob.
Now it has a real K&N intake, UIP, 1G bov, NgK plugs/wires, Arospeed muffler, Autometer boost and A/F guages. No more shift knob. Darn thing kept falling off.
I wanted 17" wheels, but since I saw your 19s....Oh MAN!

Hey Guys, you do realise that when you increase the diameter of your wheels, you are SIGNIFICANTLY increasing your rotating mass and decreasing your acceleration right?

Jehu thats so true. my freind with his nt(was modded) 300Z learned the hardway. when my car was pretty much stock (b/c set to 15psi and 3" cat back), he use to beat me with his 16" while i had 17". but then he went to 18" wheels and i would whoop him like he was staying still =). the bigger the slower the acceleration.

Yes, I know. I don't plan on getting 19s because of that and the fact that I go to college and my wallet is small. But I still think they look great on Cazzos car.

Well Back to M3s. Last night, I witnessed a race between a 97/98 mustank GT and a M3 at an intersection. That mustang got badly burned even in his own country.

Quickly--thank you about my wheels. Second your absolutely right about the weight. I noticed a big DEACREASE in overall acceleration, but man these wheels turn heads!!!! I'm currently working on making my car faster to compensate and it's going to take awhile.

thx..cya
