I recently raced my friend with his AT GSX against my AT gsx. off the line he smoked me horribly. what am I doing wrong? it shouldnt be this hard!

I powerbrake until I build about 12ish lbs of boost and then I go. but I never get thrown back in my seat. it always feels weak.

You are doing the right thing. I have always been told to launch around 10 psi. A stall converter would help of course. All you can do is hold your boost and then go wot. With the A/T there really is not any secrets.

Take care,

Don't hold WOT while building boost. Take a little longer to build your boost and then floor it when you are ready to launch. You will leave much harder flashing the converter even if it is only a couple hundred RPM with the factory converter.
If you get a nice loose 3500 stall using a 16G or smaller you can leave of an idle and have almost instant boost. Coverters built after V8 designs are not very benificial to a 4 cyls that produces no low end torque, so be careful before choosing one if you chose to get one.

ok thanks I will try that. I have searched alot on this already.
I just got a Evo3 Big16 and I've tryed launching with it but it seems it takes too long to build boost..... I'll have to do more experimenting.
