had some more fun this weekend, The motor is installed, along with the rest of the removed drivetrain, in the truck. When I started it, well you know there was valve clatter to beat the band. It got better but was still bad, not to mention the fuel leak I found on the #2 Injector, cut the O-ring installing it in the Fuel Rail, lesson learned. Back to the subject, I talked to the local LONG time Mitsu mechanic and his first question, "are they the original lash adjusters?" me, "why yes" did you soak them in ATF for a half hour before installing them?" No I just used 3-1 oil and filled them up" Him, "bad Idea, they should have pumped up in about 3-4 minutes anyway, did they quiet down?"
me, "yes, but they're still pretty loud" him "did you put in New Springs?" Yes, they are about 50Lbs more seat pressure, and the cam was re-ground for a .432 lift" Him, "there's the problem, the old lifters are probably just loosing all thier oil with all the pressure... get new lash adjusters, or for 10 bucks more, get some adjustable rocker arms from an old 2.0 pickup and use those"

I went to mitsubishi today, the parts guy pulls out the Microfiche machine, looks up lifters for a 83 2.0 Pickup (I'M a SOHC 8) and viola! lifters with adjuster screws! MD023225, MD023226, MD040780, MD040781.

Moral of the Story, there may old, adjustable rocker arms out there for all you guys with lifter noise on your DOHC 16V engines.

Similar experience with the injector O ring... lmfao... atleast a gallon in 30 seconds on the ground. Learned my lesson well. I'd love to see those lifters tho. So when you get'em post a pic. Curious cat would like to see.

Could you use a 16v SOHC head on your setup? That was plagueing me from before. Couldn't you grab some extra flow without going DOHC? If so I have an extra head I could donate to the make Mike go faster fund.

I've finally gotten my stroker running, and the valve ticking is unbearable. The engine has about an hour on it, and maybe six miles.

How do you set the lash on the adjustable lifters?

I know, this is a stupid question.

My haynes Manual had the clearances I think it was .007 on the exhaust and .004 on the Intake. I went with .005 all the way around. You take off the Valve Cover, (removing the intake tube and a bunch of other stuff). adjust them Cold. put the cover and other stuff back on with the minimum of fasteners, warm it up. Pull the stuff off again, check and re-adjust warm. and button it up. Yeah, a real PITA!

One more additional note. you have to order the Screw adjusters and locknut seperately, not much money but they're not included with the lifter.... extra day waiting for the parts to come in.

I'll also throw in a shameless plug for Huntington Beach Mitsubishi, Phillip and Todd at the parts counter are stand-up Guys, they get me my parts usually the next day by 9:00AM if the order is in by 1:00PM. (I never have found a part for my truck in stock other than the Oil Filter))Always are helpful, and I've seen them direct guys to various parts stores (actually call them and see if they have it)for those overly expensive alternators and such parts the dealer overcharges for.
