My Trans is leaking oil from underneath the shift selector. It's coming from the bellow the rubber boot. Is there a seal under the boot, mitsu told me #MD717899 but they aren’t sure if it's a seal. Anyone else have this problem? How did you fix it?

Mine leaks tranny fluid from around that boot also..It is NOT clutch fluid because I just replaced the master cylinder and it still leaks..But,it is as if it is leaking from that boot..My guess is that there shouldn't be ANY fluid inside of that boot because it doesn't seal fluid and is too flimsy..It is tranny fluid though because the level slowly goes down inside the trans over the course of time..

I think there must be a seal under the boot. Your right it does seem to flimsy to hold oil. I have the part cuming from LA, when I try to repair it i'll let you know.
Anyone else repair this?

That happened to me when I had my old 91NT. Was leaking near the boot as well. Took it to my local Satan, they thought it was the seal too. They replaced the seal, and a few days later, I had a puddle under my car. Wasn't the seal after all, turns out I had a hairline crack that ran for about 4 inches on my tranny case!!!

Yeah, there's shouldn't be gear oil anywhere near that. The only place(s) it can leak out is through the drain hole underneath, the fill hole on the side, or either axle seal. The portion by the slave cylinder that you speak of just has the clutch behind it; no oil there.

I'm going to replace the seal next week.

How much did it cost you to repair? a mutsu mechanic told me it's an internal seal.
The seal is right under the boot. To change it you have to open up the tranny and remove the shifter shaft from the inside. If you've installed a LSD, then you should be able to replace the seal, too.
