View Full Version : '91 Tranny won't go into gear after engine rebuild
I just had my '91 AWD engine rebuilt. I replaced the pressure plate, fulcrum ball and shift fork for the tranny when I did the engine work. Now that I have everything back together, I can't shift the tranny with the engine on. It seems to shift o.k. with the car off but when I start it in neutral and push the clutch in, it won't shift. If I try to start the car in gear with the clutch pressed in, the clutch is still engaged. I even dropped the tranny again and checked everything to make sure it was in correctly. I then replaced the slave cylinder and bled it real well but still have the poblem. Any ideas?

try this out and see if it works
1. disconnect the ignition fuse to prevent the car from starting
2. With the car off, put the shifter into first gear
3. Step on the clutch and crank the motor
Now with the complete, if the car starts to move forward,
A. clutch is still engaged and you sould bleed the hydraulic system again. Go through one full resevoir of clutch fluid to be sure.
B. clutch pedal assembly may be worn, check vfaq and follow procedures
If the car does not pull forward,
A. everything shoud be fine
