Hello everyone...I am posting this as a Reference to anyone who is intersted in a motor/tranny replacement for a GST. We bought a 97 GST Spyder Automatic that was a Theft Recovery. Interior was Shot, Found out motor was runing on 2 cylinders when we got it back to the shop. (Ignition Column was busted). This was an unexpected setback. lol We have already put the new motor in the spyder and it is running great. We had a feeling the auto tranny migh be bad due to the previous strain on the motor, however it was shifting ok previously and didnt have signs of abuse so we put it back in the car. We were right about our first assumption the tranny went out at about 85mph on the Highway, Day 2 of break in period.
We called the Tow Truck got her back to the shop and started breaking her down. None of us here wanted to put the Auto tranny in the car to begin with so we figured it was a blessing in disguise it burned up. lol now we could do what we wanted with the car.
This Spyder is now going to be converted to an AWD(GSX) 5 speed and we will be posting pictures before and after as well if anyone is interested a write up of the correct parts and procedure to do this swap.
