anyone have any tips/suggestions on how to get the tranny bolted back up? I took it down easily for a clutch swap, but it's been a bitch trying to get it back on.

thanks

Get more then one person and all work together... I usually get my brother or 2 at the least... but too many people get in the way. up and back a bit ususally try to get the pins on the block / trans lines up... The more times you do it the better you get at it. Ive done it soo many times and one day it goes on 1st try, the next its a bitch to do. One under the car (benchpress) at least another above...good luck

Its easier to jack it up then benchpress it, usually when i have the tranny out i use 2 jacks. One holding the engine and the other to remove/install tranny. When putting the tranny back in i lower the engine a little and jack the tranny into place. And yes a second person makes it easier ;)

Ftltalon, you may be able to help me with this question since you have a 2g...

did you attach the left side mount to the tranny and then jack it into place, or did you put it on after? same thing for the rear mount?

i was thinking about moving the tranny into place and then attaching them, but i'm not sure how well this would work.

Benchpressing is the only real way to do it. ;)
You'll want to leave the mounts off. Like he said, lower the passenger side of the engine down a little bit to give you some wiggle room by the passenger framerail. You will probably have to rotate the tranny a little forward to get the diff area to clear where the control arm bolts to the subframe, then rotate it back to where it should be. Make sure that both of your dowel pins are in there. Get the tranny to the right height, get the input shaft in the clutch, then rotate the tranny forward and back until you get it mated to the dowel pins. Then what I do is wiggle the passenger side of the tranny up and down while pushing it towards the engine. After you have all the bolts holding them together, drop the engine down a little more to where you can fit the passenger side mount in between the studs and where it bolts to the frame. Get the bolts started, then put the rear mount in(if you tighten any of the bolts down all the way right now, you won't have enough play in the rear mount to get all the bolts started)

I've tried to describe it the best I can, but it doesn't compare to actually seeing it done. Just tell yourself it gets easier every time and you'll feel better.

tried the bench press method.

i pushed it up while my friend wiggled it and pushed it toward the engine.

thanks for the tip
