clutch pedal

My car sometimes does not go into 2nd. When the car is on an in neutral, I can lift the clutch pedal up another 2 to 3 inches from its resting position. I have a brand new master/slave cylinder. It is a 92 or up tranny in my 90 talon. When i changed transmissions was i supposed to change the linkage too? Any help with what you think is wrong woul be appreciated.

Worn out clutch pedal assembly. The fix is a welding job. Just pulling the assembly out is the bitch.

The transmission shop bled the system when they installed new slave/master cylinders. When you say welding job..What do you mean? What should i tell someone who knows how to well what to do?
