View Full Version : Clutch or Slave Problem on my 1g?

I have a problem with my clutch pedal that when the temp is 70 degrees or warmer, the clutch is stiff and the disengagement is right off the floor. If it gets any colder, the clutch pedal is soft at startup and wouldn't go into gear. As the car warms up a little bit, I'm able to force it into gear but sometimes it grinds. If I drive the car for a while, the clutch pedal will eventually stiffen up to normal again.

Here are the things that I have done/check: Clutch master cyl. has been check with no leak. Slave does not leak and fork does not seem bent. Have Bled the system good. Adjusted the Clutch Mast.Cyl. rod correctly. Replaced the rubber piece with SS line.

I have ACT 2600 with a fairly new clutch/pressure plate. I also have a longer Clutch master rod in place. I cannot determine what's been causing this mystery problem. I'm thinking that maybe the Clutch master cyl. may be defective but I'm not sure. Can some Please help shed some light?

Have you tried adjusting the engagement point? I'm assuming you did hence the longer MC push rod.

Did you shimmy the clutch fork fulcrum ball when you swapped in the new clutch?

What height did you have the flywheel stepped to?

Does your clutch pedal assembly have any slop/play?

The clutch pedal assembly has been replaced and does not have any play. I have not shimmed the fulcrum ball and yes, I have adjusted the rod many times. The last time that I swapped the clutch, I did not resurface the flywheel. I've heard a little about problems with flywheel not resurface correctly but would it cause a problem that is temp. related like mine?

Yes, it could be a problem. What I would do.

1. Drop the tranny and resurface the flywheel to the correct step. (.608-.610")
2. Shim the fulcrum ball with a washer or two. I personally use a head bolt washer on mine. That's more than plenty.

This will save you alot of headache and you will not destroy your synchros forcing the car into gear. Any other adjustments can be made with the master cylinder push rod.

i have the same problem with my car i have act 2100 clutch kit wit act flywhell brand new. and when mine stiffins up it gets really stiff. i still have to find the problem but if you get an extended slave cylinder rod it would probably help.
