hey guys
im a galant vr4 owner down in AUSTRALIA

im looking to purchase some bits from TRE

what do you guys recommend for a high HP build.. looking at drag racing

hoping for around 550HP at the wheels

what do you guys suggest?

we dont have DSM specialists here in AUS so basically im thinking about buying the parts and getting someone to put it in

i've considered:
- spider gears
- dual sycro's 1 / 2 / 3
- taller 4th gear??
- VCE
- SBR LSD

OR

same as above,
+ TRE SPOOL

OR

same as above,
+ Quaife Front LSD
+ Kaz Centre LSD
- Spool /VCE / Spiders

what do you guys recommend?

everybody here thinks the standard box is good
other than that, we have DOG BOX's here, but i dont want any of that

thanks!

If you plan on launching the car hard and you drive it on the street, I'd recomend the 4 spider center diff. If it's for drag racing only, get the spool. You can add a front LSD with the 4 spider diff, but DO NOT use a front LSD with a center diff spool or VCE. It will make the whole drivetrain bind up whenever you turn, even the slightest turn.

Definately get the double syncro second gear. Double syncros for first, third and fourth are not as important, but I'm sure they're nice if you have the money.

If you like to shift hard, get the stronger shift rails and steel shift forks (if yours doesn't already have them).

You might want to talk to a local high performance tranny shop and ask if they can deburr and polish your gearset. Doing this will add strength to each gear.

A taller 5th gear is nice for cruising on the freeway and improving gas economy.

whats the probability of busing up the stock spiders?

i've got an RS / EVO gearbox..

i believe forks are the stronger type already..

i think ill order some dual 2nd syncro's or do the evo box's already have them!?!

the box has been sitting for a couple of years now, should i get seals / bearings done??

i would love to get spiders / lsd...

any other suggestions guys?

I don't know that much about the RS/EVO gearbox. You'll just have to take it apart and see what you have. There's a good chance you have a center diff with two spider gears, just like the US DSM. That's the weak link in the tranny when doing hard launches, so upgrade it. The cheap, quick and easy way is to get a spool. The street friendly and expensive way is to get a 4 spider center diff and a front diff lsd.

I still recomend getting the sides of the gears de-burred and polished.

why dont you just call or email jon or ming and ask them? they probably know more about trannies than most people on here. ive noticed that ming seems to respond a little quicker. ask the people you are buying the parts from once in a while they actually know what they are talking about.
