I'm assuming their must be, or otherwise mfrs would put on larger bars from the factory.

My understanding had been that they don't have the same negative effect on ride quality that stiffer springs do, so what is their downside?
Thanks all... -J

Per my understanding, the only downsides is you no longer get that wonderful squishy, flexing chassis feel, and you don't have to go as slow around turns. The reason manufacturers don't put larger ones on in the factory is because manufacturers are notoriously cheap. Chevy once deleted all sway bars from the Z24s. They didn't get away with it, of course, because of the uproar, but they tried.

If you use a stiff enough sway bar in front and rear, with top strut supports, your inside rear tire may lift in cornering. This signals excellent chassis rigidity. Don't be frightened by it.
