I have a 92 tsi, L1R turbo upgraded fuel blah blah blah. anyways The trans in my car was good and solid untill I had a friend tow it to my house with a car dolly..... Yeash did ya catch that. A freekin car dolly. So now after locking the front wheels in place and dragging the rears for a good 300 ft The center diff shattered. I had a brand new never been bolted in a car manual trans at the shop and now im running that. The rest of the drivetrain is solid. How hard can I run this befor i need to worrie about the center diff or rest of the trans letting loose. I have solid mounts, 4 bolt rear, ACT 2600, RRE Flywheel. exc... Im just breaking the 300 hp mark at the wheel. I s this trans going to get me a bit of time or do i need to break the bank and send my other one out now.??? Im new to the dsm stuff and have no clue how tough these things are. Opinions wanted. Thanks guys.

It all depends on how hard you launch it. The center diff is the weak link in the AWD tranny. If you get stupid with it you could blow the center diff tomorow. OTOH, stock center diffs have held up to some very quick launches. When you do a hard launch just make sure you slip the clutch just enough to get the car rolling first. It's called the 'slip-dump' method.

Since you have a new trans in the car, I'd recomend you take apart your old trans and send the center diff into a shop to get rebuilt into a 4 spider diff. Then when you get a chance, swap the center diffs. That will reduce your downtime and save you the cost of a full rebuild.
