b&m all the way. You can shorten the throw to 35 or 50%. You pick. Get the symborski shifter kit while your at it.

Agreed. B&M is the best out there. I have the Symborski shift kit and the Stiff Shift kit from Extreme. It is just a small machined aluminum plate that attaches to your transmission, replacing the bracket that holds the shifter cables to it. Cake to install and worth every penny. I have not purchased a B&M, I just had a welding shop shorten the stock shifter in my 2g. Does not shorten the throw, but I like it anyway....

I use the old Extreme one and love it but most people I see have the B&M.

I was under the impression that Extreme had changed their short shifter but looking at their page today the one they are selling looks just like the one I bought 7 years ago.

Does the short throw make that much of a difference? I have yet to purchase one because Ive always figured it wouldn't help that much.

I have a b&m knockoff shifter set at 50% and I love it. The shifter sits about 2 inches lower then stock and the shift throw is a heck of alot shorter then stock. It doesnt feel like I am driving a truck, it now has that tight sports car feel.
If you have not already I would suggest getting metal shifter mount spacers and the ball bearing mod for the trans side shifter linkage.
With the conjunction of the three my car shifts like my aunts 911 turbo, nice short and firm shifts with very little play.

After you drive with a short shifter you will hate the stock one and wonder how you used it for so long.
It is good enough that it is the only mod I transferred from my old car to my new one.

Is the height on the real B&M shifter the same as stock.
A long time ago I bought a "short-throw" shifter from Extreme for like $60 or somthing for my 1G. All it was was a shortened handle. What a rip-off POS. Never bought anything from them again.

Or put rollerblade bearings in place of the shifter bushings in the cables.
