Hey. So i tore down the tranny thinkin something broke in it, but turns out was a messed up shattered clutch disk yet i still somehow could shift fine etc. Well when tearing down the tranny a tapered roller bearing just kinda fell apart when i removed the case.

My question, the bearings are normally pressed on im sure, but could i be able to put on a tapered roller bearing without stripping the entire tranny down? its on the outmost point of the input shaft (just behind 5th gear). Could i carefully tap it on with a hammer, or maybe rig something up to use 2 c-clamps, (on the bearing on each side, and under the gear) to press it on?

tia.

Which end are you talking about, closest to clutch or closest to 5th gear. I'm assuming closest to 5th gear as it sounds like you haven't torn the tranny all the way down yet. Either way if you replace it I'd double check the shim you have on the shaft at the very least.

I'm by no means an expert, but I've been reading the shop manual for our transmission like the holy bible lately as I'll be rebuilding my own this month (including synchros and everything).

none of those are pressed in, careful that you odnt' lose the spacers that sometimes reside behind them
