View Full Version : Welding clutch pedal Q's

I finally got the pedal assembly out of the car (major PITA) and that creates a few questions. I know the fix is to weld the lever to the shaft at the end of the shaft to remove any chance of freeplay (and on mine there is a lot of freeplay wiggle on the lever), the problem is that the shaft goes through a bracket before it bolts to the lever. I CANNOT remove the bracket because there is a rivet/welded bolt where the bracket meets the firewall that holds it in place. What do I do? How do I get around this? I've read several writeups about it, and I'm stumped. I am talking about the bracket right above the gas pedal that also has the adjustment rod in it along with the return spring. I'm sorry I don't have pictures to better show what I mean.

There are 4 bolts that attach the said "bracket" to the clutch pedal assembly. If you unbolt the bracket (ie. the 4 bolts,) you should be able to rotate it out of way to expose a sizable area to weld the clutch lever onto the shaft. ;)

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. When I took the assembly out, I had to take the lever off of the rest of the assembly to get it out. The bracket that housed the lever and the return spring is what I'm talking about. Unless you mean I have to get the thing welded while its still in the car (which would be kinda stupid). I've checked for more bolts and there aren't any, just that "rivet" otherwise, that bracket doesn't budge at all.

I think I understand what you are saying now. The ENTIRE ASSEMBLY (w/the bracket) must come out of the car. The "rivets" you talk about are what hold the MC reservoir in place. As long as you unbolt the TWO-bolts (underhood,) the entire assembly will come out. It takes some coaxing and wiggling.

Does anyone have pics of welding the clutch pedal assembly? I'm about to remove mine and I would like to weld it up and reinstall it before I replace my clutch. Where can I order the Brass bushing replacement kit? I've been searching and I found one tech article on Tuners but all the pics are gone.

I'm still in search of this. There has to be people out there that have done this.
