As a few of you may know... I recently got a 2G talon TSI...
Well the cars great but is getting 1G stuff since it ate some valves.
Turbo, head, manifolds, ect...
BUT I ran into a few things that could benefit 4G64 owners as well.
(I do have a Galant)
This only pertains to 94-99 spyder and Galant owners as far as I can see.
Since I had to use the 1G main water pipe with the head swap on the talon so I could use 1G water/oil lines for the turbo I thought about the reverse on the 4G64. Its basically the same casting as the 4G63, and if you use a 2G turbo head and thermostat housing. (You can't use 1G thermo on a 2G or vice versa, different bolt pattern) I bet you could use the stock 2G turbo main water pipe on the 4G64 allowing you to use the stock 2G oil/water supply lines for the turbo. You would of course be using a turbo exhaust manifold and THAT would eliminate clearence issues. Plus it eliminates dicking around with SS line and leaks. The oil filter bracket looks the same from the 64 to the 63. And that's where your oil supply line feeds from on a 2G.
Spyder people will of course have an easier job. They start with DIS. Galant owners w/o a seperate crank sensor should run 1G cams to use a 1G CAS to supply cam crank sig. Newer Galants with a crank sensor could use the 2G CAS in the head. Every car / setup will be a bit different, but I just thought it would be a clean, factory "seeming" turbo setup for those looking for a bit more punch on a budget. Luckily reverse logic also applies for those looking for the displacement increase of the 2.4L block in their DSM.
*I didn't go in depth, there's alot of other things you will still need, downpipe, injectors & pack, ecu... misc gaskets and timing parts, AFC, gauges, ect.*
It was just a point to illustrate low dollar turbo options. As most are about $10K setups. Pistons are still recommended on any 4G64, or PERFECT tuning and 10 psi will be your limit.
The best part is by finishing up the Talon, I am supplying the Galant with the necessary stuff to finish it as well. And you can't beat that. :D
