Datalogger says it happened at 8170 RPM Build a motor, find the weak link...

Got lucky and only cost $31 for the easy out and new bolts, not to mention the weekend R&R of the engine and a missed race date..

Lol, I glanced at the title and though it said "Dodged a Mullet" :o

Is that a "wideblock" 4g64? Either way, its not a 1g block. Just a 6 bolt.
1gs never had a 4g64 :P

uhh... you sure about that?
What about the 6 bolt 4G64's that were in hyundai's?
Its basically the "1G" equivalent to the 4G63
Whereas the 7bolt 4G64 that is in newer Galants and Spyders
is the "2G" variant.
Or something like that...

Its still not a "1g" block if its a 2.4l. No 90-94 T/E/L came with a 2.4l.
Its called a, get this, "6 bolt" :P .

Not that it makes a different, we all knew what he ment.

How did you manage to do that? And how is the flyweel just sitting there instead of in your lap?

Glad to hear nothing happend, but that's amazing.

The flywheel/clutch/pressure plate is hanging on the Transmission Pilot Shaft.

I do believe it is a wideblock, the motor is out of a Mitsubishi Mighty Max.

It is a 4g64, says so right on the Block.http://www.tonerlady.com/images/Max/4G64s.JPG

1G/2G you guys can dismantle that, for what I know 6 bolt/7bolt defines the 1G/2G variations. I can be educated on the variances between them. I do Know the production date (7/91 for mine) is of concern when I get parts from Mitsubishi.

So were you racing or what? Did you shift, or was anything unusual happening?

I'm sorry I don't know too much about your truck or how you drive it. Was the motor a performance build or a rebuild?

Also really impressive that all the bolts broke clean at the same time (well, that the flywheel stayed in balance while they all broke). I'm guessing you used the stock replacements, or did you put other ones in there?

I just don't get how this didn't f you or the truck up.

Racing, missed shift, basic thoughts are that they sheared off when I let off the gas, the inertia of the flywheel just snapped them. It is a performance build. 14:1 compression, balanced rotating assy, balance shaft(s) eliminator kit, solid lifters, major headwork. custom tune on the E-prom ECU, hacked MAF, all the standard stuff. I do have a scatter shield, thank GOD it didn't get used! the Flywheel just spun on the transmission pilot shaft. Could have been the fact that I shut it down in an instant (good to have a Kill switch)
I put in NEW factory bolts, those were 12 years old.....Of course I'm staying away from8K rev's from now on.....
