Where to begin.

I'll start by saying that a little while back, my transfer case that I had replaced as soon as I bought the car locked up on me with maybe 1,000 miles on it.

I get the car back, and a few days later notice something vibrating horribly 40 MPH and above. Look underneath the car, the case is leaking again. There is fluid stained/burned on my exhaust. Back to the dealership. I go back a few days later, and they tell me that the fluid on the transfer case and the exhaust was probably just some remainder from when they filled it up, and that the leak I was seeing on the ground was from the oil drain on the turbo, which I knew was leaking a tad, and that the vibration was from 2 bolts MISSING from where the driveshaft bolts into the rear end. Super.

I limp the car home (unrelated problem, turned out my BISS fell out,) replace the 4 driveshaft bolts with new hardware, took it around the block once. No vibration up to 55 or so. I'm a happy camper.

The car sat for a while because I was getting some other stuff done on it to prepare for DSMLink. I had put a total of 13 miles on it from getting it home from the dealership, then driving it around the block.

I looked underneath a few days back and noticed a puddle coming from, where else, the transfer case. Although I had a hunch before that the leak was from the case, I just figured maybe I could be wrong. But alas, I was right as usual :D

I went back up there Friday, and it's been maybe a month, I'm not sure exactly, and tell them what is going on. He says "No, no. The fluid was from the line on the oil pan." I told him quite specifically that I pulled the turbo drain tube off of the car, and that the case is leaking without a doubt. I told him that there were 13 miles on the car, and asked if they replaced the end joint on the driveshaft. He says he isn't sure what all is replaced, but I can bring the car back up and they'll look at it.

So, I'm going to take the car there as soon as DSMLink arrives, and tell them to put it on the rack and I'll show them where it's leaking from.

Could it be anything else aside from the end joint on the driveshaft not mating properly to keep the fluid in? I can't imagine a case going bad in 13 miles, so something just isn't sitting right.

Thanks, and sorry for the novel-style post,

Jesse

Usually it leaks out the back of the yolk on the driveshaft.

These might help you find out where it's leaking from. They also have some info about what the dealer does and doesn't cover.

I quote from the xfercase leak page...

"I personally have heard of more than 20 reports of lock up happening. One guy from Puerto Rico sent me e-mail asking for relevant info from the Talon Digest archives on this problem because he was up on manslaughter charges - his passenger died in a crash after he mysteriously lost control of his AWD. He believes the transfer-case locked up on him."

Thats fucked up... I've been trying to get my dealer to warrenty my tcase for a while and they keep saying it was already done and the person who has the power to ok it refuses.
