There is an Ebay vender trading as Cheapbrackets that is offer a sheet metal intake. This intake is not a true sheet metal intake it’s made of mild steel. Square and rectangular tubing with a steel flange and end caps welded on.
The vender never says exactly what it is made from, but by the looks in the pic it would have you believe it's aluminum. It is well made the intake ports are well matched to the head and gasket and so far I have not found any leaks from the welds. Mine was further modified by wrapping it in stainless steel> this created numerous problems with clearance of upper intake bolts not to mention how do you seal to surfaces if you try to tap the intake for nitrous.
The addition of the stainless does nothing but add weight and complicate the install. I don’t know if the vender did it or it was done afterwards. I don’t recommend it.

i bought one of those from him a while back, its a tank, i didnt use mine. just a $265 mistake IMO. he should clarify in that auction they are made of steel stock and not sheetmetal. i should have just bought the forrester to begin with.

Have you pressure tested it yet? How do the welds look? Looks pretty intriguing.
Have you noticed any gains opposed to the stock intake mani?

That thing is a POS. Get a JM Fab one or a Magnus. Support your real DSM vendors.
Guys have made in excess of 450 AWHP on the stock 1G intake. I doubt any of you guys are at that level yet.

It's not about how much hp some shmo made on a stock intake manifold. That's like saying people have gone 11's on the 14b so why upgrade?
I'm not into reaching max potential, I'd prefer to have something that can do the same HP and still have room to flow more than whatever the 1g maxes out at.
Plus I don't need a smim but if this WAS a good deal I'd buy one just because of the price. JM Fab will probably get my money when the time comes.

i never used it, like owgi said POS. i havent tested it, and it could hold up i suppose. but if you havent noticed alot of the other intake mani's for our cars have the intake runners on an angle towards the head where as these runners come straight out of the plenum and directly to the port. they also sit a little lower than stock and you cant use that bracket for vacuum that sits on the back of the stock manifold. they are not tapped for any kind of vacuum/boost accessories. seems all to likely to pull the studs right out of the head with how top heavy it is. another problem i saw after i got it, is it may line up well with stock ports on the head but i couldnt tell you because my head was ported to hell and my ports were larger than the manifolds. also doesnt seem to be such a smooth finish inside the runners and looks to be a hard turn for the air to actually get inside the runner. had to modify my throttle body to get the bolt holes to line up. at this point i gave up on it, never installed. steel also wont shed the heat as well as aluminum. i could see a loss in low end torque using and kind of short runner manifold.

I agree with nomanes observations but I have no choice in the matter. It was on the car when I got it. Another contributing fact is when we got the car I had no idea about any performance mods or much about a DSM to start with. Still slowly learning. I will post when we go to Extreme Motorsports for the first tuning. LIke I said it's a POS.

How heavy is your turbo and turbo manifold? I suppose it never fell off due to it being to heavy and pulling out the stud, did it? Some people really amaze me  .

Um, there is a bracket on the downpipe that ALSO supports the turbo.
It bolts the downpipe to the block to support the turbo and manifold.
There are also 2 braces on the stock intake, and most people run at least the upper one. I dont have the lower one and no problems in 10k miles.
Some people really amaze me.

getting the extrememotorsports.com street and strip for around 700.00 Can't stop the leaks at the intake to head.

The stock manifold is well proportioned, this 1 the plenum is a 4x4 peice of steel that sits straight out from the studs. and with all the leverage and weight on 1 end of the manifold its probably not gonna stay torqued down for very long. if your turbo exhaust manifold and 02 housing sat straight out from the head, with all the weight pulling down on the top studs, i bet they would pull out. the turbo setup itself has good weight distribution, its not heavy all in 1 place.

I am a fabricator by trade, and will soon be making my own sheetmetal intake. unlike this one discussed, I will actually use sheet metal to make it. I am also going to angle the runners so the flow is easier. and it will be tapered down from #4 to #1 cylinder for equal distribution. If it works well, i may produce and sell for less than that guy is selling them. Only if my design works well though.
You can tell that guy just threw together some crap without thinking of functionality.
Good luck to him though...a good scam is a good scam.
