Just as far as the stock 16s. Basically the total wheel size (wheel and tire together) does not change when you get new rims. Bigger the rims, smaller the profile. This keeps a generally constant overall size. Because of the constant overall size, you can lower just as low as you would 16s.
The only issue that you might run into is if you get very wide rims, in that case you may hit the side wall fairly easy and you might not want to lower it to far.
Anyone else have anything to add?, I still have the stock rims on mine, this is just what I have learned...

Im no expert either but i'll add my 2 cents. Take whatsADSM advice. It shouldnt matter what size wheel since the profile lessens. As for width he is right. I have 19 x 8.5 and had to have the fender well in the rears chopped for clearance (if you consider the width of a dime clearance)At least i have no rub. Hey don't go lower than 1.3 or 1.5 as you will have a very crappy ride. At 1.3 you have about 1 in of suspension travel which hardly soaks up any mal-paved roads and deteriorates cornering performance. gl.!

All I know it that a 2G lowered 1.5 with 17s makes me happy.
By the way, I used to live in Orange for 9 years total. El toro, Laguna Niguel, and then Escondido to be exact.
