Latest review on the Forced Performance package that I'm running. Here's the setup:
--T04E-Twin-Scroll turbo to Forced Performance's specs.
--3" 02 Eliminator
--Forced Performance ported head

This setup changed the car's powerband completely. The old T3/T4 used to be somewhat harsh on power delivery. It would spool relatively quickly, hit hard, then pull up to redline. This new setup (even though it's a larger turbo) spools even more quickly and is very smooth in power delivery. Power is of the neck-snapping variety. This past weekend the car went to a tuning session at the local dragstrip. With minimal tuning (car is VERY roughly tuned), rolling out to save the transmission, and granny-shifting, the car ran 12.1@121.44 mph. Once tuned, the car should see mid-high 120s in trap speeds. Only time will tell though. I'm am thoroughly impressed with the way this setup works, and am glad that I basically left the turbo specs up to Forced Performance. It was a case of "Hey, I need you to re-build my turbo". Response: "Okay...what do you want us to make?". "<small laugh> Ummmm...you're the turbo guys, you just build what you think will work well out of it." Boom...done. Not only that, but throughout the process, Robert at Forced Performance has been patiently putting up with any technical questions that I call him on about the setup. Definite "thumbs up".

Glad to hear that you are satisfied.
Can you give us any more specs, or description on the turbo?

What times did your car run before the new turbo(for comparison)?

Don't you need a special manifold for a twin scroll?

And any more significan tech details would be greatly apprieciated, Thanks.

Great numbers! And cool, I've been wanting to get information on this turbo setup. When you made this pass what psi were you running at, what octane, etc., etc.? I know Brent Rau used to run with a T04E turbo and he got some very good numbers with it.

What rpm do you get full boost?
How much boost?
Could you drive that turbo on the street?

And what size injectors are you running?

One more question...what exactly is a "twin scroll" turbo? :P

I'm not sure as to what all the specs are on this turbo. As I said, I told him (Robert at Forced Performance) what I wanted out of the car (Was running 11.91@116 before on the T3/T4, found out that I had bad rods in the new motor so this was basically the only trip to the track)and said "Now make it happen". He came through IMHO. The passes I made with the 121mph trap speeds were at 20 psi. I'm using 720cc injectors, and the Haltech has about 30 minutes of tuning on it. Once the car is ready to make the trip, I'll be taking it to the dyno to actually get the car running like it should.

Let me try to squeeze in the answers to the other questions.

--As far as driving the car on the street with this turbo. Yes..as soon as the car is tuned/together enough, it will see street duty and weighs in at 3300+lbs.

--Boost comes on at about 3600-3700 rpms. It's not like a Mitsu turbo where you can watch the boost gauge build boost. You go from 0psi to 20 psi in no time at all.

--A twin-scroll or tangential turbo is a turbo which has two chambers (divided) in the exhaust housing.

--As of now I am running my old HKS manifold which I've been using for about the last two years.

I talked to Robert at Forced Performance today and asked him about this turbo while I was ordering some other stuff. He told me you have to use the HKS manifold with this turbo.

Wow... That's some serious power being made on that turbo. Is your engine built up or stroked? Getting 121mph on a slow roll out in a 3300+lb car on only 20 psi of boost sounds like this engine has 130+mph potential with the boost cranked up and a decent launch. Can you please let us know what your go hard parts are that make this car boogie?

BTW, do you think that the Haltech is a good street setup, or do you have to compromise a lot (eg. all emissions stuff, comfort stuff (A/C), etc.)?

Thanx for your feedback.

What happened to this thread? It was getting interesting.

Hey, Josh (DSSA)... you out there?

hipogtr...i know this has nothing to do with the post..sorry..but everytime i see the pik of your car it reminds me of an skyline R33..hehe

I'll take that as a compliment, thrownrods. Thanx plenty! I only wish it was a Skyline GTR! One day I'm going to get one of those sick cars and jam 800hp worth of goodies into that engine bay. Now that would be a sensational ride! Now, where's that lottery ticket I was after!

Ha Ha, I knew I was right, Brent did use a T04E and ran a 11.11 with it(Imagine me as a little kid who just found out he was right...lol). Go back and read the january or februrary 1999 issue of Turbo mag. After he used the T04E he went with the ts04, and now he runs an even bigger turbo.

Its a good article to read with tons of information on his setup with the turbo.
