im debating on what i should do to the 4g64.i seen forums where people put the head from a 2nd gen dohc on a 4g64 and i heard of people putting a turbo from a 1st & 2nd gen eclipse on without the dohc swap.but i dont know what engine internals they had or will it be safe to run a turbo at 8psi without hurting the engine.if i cant find the engine internals im going with changing to the dohc.if someone knows where to get pistons and rods for a 4g64 please let me know.

You can do a lot to the 3g 4g64. A Kia Optima head will bolt right on. It's the same casting as the EVO head but it has different internals. A DSM exhaust manifold will bolt up to either head, not sure about the intake manifold. You may have to switch it over to a EVO one. You'll have to get a timing belt from a 94 DOHC Galant. The bottom end can handle upwards of 20psi from my understanding and 300whp is within reason. I had a 2000 RS and sold it because I thought it had a shitty motor. Now I kick myself every time I think about it. Anyways, that should get you started.

you think i can do a turbo engine and trans swap.instead of getting engine internals done to the 4g64 spending all that money i was thinking about a jdm 4g63t or 4g63 swap with trans.i dont think i would be able to bolt up just the motor because the transmission in my car is on the opposite side of the 2g eclipse's.

A swap isn't worth it. Your stock bottom end can handle 20psi, maybe more. A head swap is pretty easy and cheap. Go to the junk yard for that. While the head is off get a nice new headgasket, and ARP head studs. And then your done with the motor. Other than that it's basically the same as modding a DSM. Exhaust manifold, turbo, exhaust, I/C and pipes, fuel pump, FPR, injectors, clutch, and some management. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask or go to www.neweclipse.org

before i check that website out.i just have one more question.so you basically telling me i dont have to get my motor bored over because the 1st and 2nd gen dsm get most of theirs bored over to a 2.4 liter.what kind of head should i use because the older model dsm timing belt are on the opposite side of what mine is.

Yours is a 2.4.... and a Kia Optima head (not sure what year) and a 94 Galant DOHC timing belt.

Eagle 2G rods and wiseco pistons for the 2.4, if you want to do a full swap start with an EVO4 and up they face the right way. the rods in the 2.4 are the weak link and 20 psi will be safe max with real good tuning.

i dont want to push 20psi.i want to push between 8-14psi.should the stock internals hold up.i have been reading others forums for 3g and a few of them talk about the 4g64 block can hold up a 1g and 2g turbo.

Yes, you can run an EVO3 16g if you want. A stock 2g turbo isn't worth the hassle. They suck. You could turbo your car for under a grand if you get some good deals on used parts. That's not including the head swap though.

when i turbo the 4g64 i might leave it sohc but get a cam shaft, cam gear, valve springs...etc.i was cruising around town friday and i saw a pt cruiser with a 2.4 dohc.i also heard that everything is similar as far as the motor goes.this guy claims he beat a camaro v8 but the way i was pulling away it dont seem like it.

With the money you could spend on a cam, gear, and valve springs you could have DOHC and have more power. Call up some local junkyards and search ebay for Optima heads. I'm pretty sure the engines in the PTs have nothing to do with a 4g64. I think they're more like the SRT-4 engines. I'm going to check into that right now though.

I'm sorry but I just don't see why you want to spend money on things that won't gain much HP. Have you even looked/called around to see how much you can get a head for? I can get them for under $100 no problem. That's without these special connections some people have/claim they have.

A company called Ripp makes a s/c kit for the 4g64 galant....not sure about fitment in to the eclipse...but you could check that out, they have a good header for the 4g64 too
