Need some help, i dont know enough about mustangs but i was wondering how a 89' Talon with no mods would hold up to a 5.0L Mustang with only some flowmasters and a K&N filter?

The dsm models started in 90, there are no 89's.

Actually there are a few DSM's with build dates of 89. In fact I think you could buy them in 89 but they might have been called 90's when they hit the lot.

I have a GSX, with a build date of 11/12/89 and the original title was issued in 12/89. But yes... its still referred to as a "90".

I dont know what you guys are on but ive seen like hundreds of 89 eagle talons or atleast people and dealerships claiming they are 89's? who knows? but anyways anbody got an answer to the original question, and if it makes anybody feel better it can be a 90' eagle talon :)

If the Mustang has an automatic, it could be a close race.

If the Mustang has an automatic, it could be a close race, actually, the Talon would probably win. If the Mustang is a 5 speed, I guess that he would have a slight advantage.
Hey look! It posted twice!

It also depends on the driver. If he's a good driver he could beat you, but if he has a 5spd and doesn't know how to launch and shift you should have him.

Is it an LX or GT? for some reason maybe weight, the LX sedans were the fastest Mustangs in 1989. Not the GT or the LX hatbacks but the sedans. I had one and I used to run 14.2@94 MPH stock. So if its one of those they are pretty quick.

I raced a 5.0 tonight. It was a non LX, 5 SPD, with exhaust, rims(rice) and id prolly say some other mods since it sound bad ass. I only have K&N, exhaust, hacked can, eitherway we raced from a roll up to like 140K/M and i was inching up pullin on him. The whole time with the sound of the v8 in my ear :( So thats almost stock vs stock or minor mods vs minor mods, and from a roll, where a mustang should have the upperhand because less drivetrain loss and the good ole talon stood tall.

Btw I also raced a older Supra Turbo. The ones before the twin turbo model... 5Spd, with a bunch of guages and tachs and shit inside, plus the guys car kept backfiring like crazy :) He seemed like he knew what he was doing, and was also a smart racer because he sized me up for over 10 minutes listening to my turbo as I was listening to his.
In the end we ended up going 3 times form a roll and all 3 times it was dead even up to 140. It seemed as the talon was pulling ahead by a hair ever second. I also can't speed shift very well with my notchy tranny right now either
Later i gave his girl a thumbs up and she smiled at me. ;)
