ok.....i was on the highway/interstate/freeway/expressway whatever u call it for the first time in a few months and i noticed my RPM's seemed to be extremely high, at least i think so, for the speed i was at. It was about 3800rpm going 75mph. My question is: Is this normal for the 4g64 spyders or is there something wrong with my car? I hope everyone with n/t spyders can input some info or advice.

That sounds about right. Smaller engines will rev up higher than bigger engines. Also make sure you do not have the O/D (overdrive) button pressed in and tha the O/D light is not on in the dash as that will cause it to rev up even higher as it would not be going into overdrive.

its a 5 speed manual

im guessing that its because of the short gearing?

That seems a little high to me! Mine is at 3300@80mph! Maybe because it is automatic and yours is stick.

Yea I agree that does sound pretty high for highway speeds. Then again, I do have a stroked and polished motor with some goodies so I could be mistaking.

let me remind you that my redline is lower than the 4g63's so it seems even worse.

o well......i guess the brilliant engineers at mitsu knew what they were doing putting that short of gearing into this car.

mph = rpm x tire diameter / differential gear ratio x 336/ transmission gear ratio

tire diameter = 2 x selection width x aspect ratio / 2540 + rim diameter

Simple enough.....
