Axe the main page or keep it?

We've been tossing around the idea of getting rid of the main page (www.dsmtalk.com). On the one hand, it's a good spot for announcements and the featured car contest. On the other hand, we're not sure if anyone really uses it, instead bookmarking the forums index and bypassing the main page entirely.

We want to hear your input on the matter. Should we do away with the main page or keep it? Would you be more likely to use it if it were updated more often or had more features?

I whole-heartedly vote to keep the main page.

UPDATING it more often is a must though. how about a "car of the month" and a dsmtalk "car of the year" every year chosen from the "of the month" cars?

also, how about more events advertised there?

The main page is probably the easiest way to post announcments/updates, but I'd be lying if I said that I read it every time I hit the forums instead of going directly for the forums link.

Even with it gone, the 'DSM talk News and Announcements' is still there for people who want to read it.

I'd keep the main page, I liked the idea of "car of the year" and "car of the month" is good if it was updated.

I don't usually use the main page, the forums are always in my history. But if there were more car competitions like turboneal suggested, etc. I would go to the main page more often.

The main page should be the search page. After all, in half the replies, someone is being a smartazz and telling someone else to use the SEARCH feature.

I actually refrain from posting on this site because of it. If i do end up posting, I make sure I do a search. Guess the snide remarks worked on me! LOL

Keep it. But do update it more often. Every time I go to Dsmtalk.com Im thinking that I will find some thing new. But no its the same thing every day.

Not sure if there is still a debate or not but I would keep it. I administer a forum and we have been having site issues that has brought down our main page. It is much harder getting general info to the public without the one stop main page, even if everyone doesn't use it. Right now for instance, if someone registers and posts in their first week or two a wtb ad, you can just ban them and they have no excuse because you clearly state on the main page it is not allowed. So I think it is a valuable asset to the site and should stay.

I'm sure that page hit stats would confirm that the forums get 99% of the traffic. Just dump straight into the forums...that's what we're here for :D

every site needs a main page, i just think it needs to be updated at least every month with something. its just becoming a waste of space. if there isnt anything to update it with just make a big search page.

I have the main page bookmarked & that's what I see each time I come here; let's me check on announcements and such as I'm heading to the forums. It's also useful because I can't access the forums directly from work (something about forums & firewalls) but it'll let me access the main page & then go from the link to them. Don't have any idea why it works that way, but it does...

Keep it, It would be nice to see it updated a little more often. There again Im just glad this site is still here and the mods are still doing this stuff just for the hell of it. Keep it up !

I say axe it or update it everyday or so. Its so outdated I just click on the forum link immediately.

I barely ever use it on most forums. I would probably only use it if it had info that I needed on it or important updates.
