Ok, so I have a 1.8, and last night my clutch started to die on me. Now this question may be stupid, but I've never owned a car with a stick, so I've never had to replace a clutch.

When my clutch started to slip, the response from the pedal became very weak; almost felt like when my slave cylinder went out. Is this a common thing when clutches go out?

I know I'll need to replace the clutch disk, but do I need to replace the pressure plate as well?

It is never a bad idea to replace the pressure plate on a slipping clutch. Granted you can get away with just the friction plate in most occasions. Slipping clutches cause excessive heat, which can be bad new for pressure plates and make them weak. I'd replace the assembly and if the problem remains, check into the hydraulics.
