Blackmage 05-13-2006, 07:46 PM i got the electric things hooked up
but theres a ton load of gold bolts and screw things and a white tube
i am lost to this as i never put in a boost gauge and vfaq has me lost on what to do
yeah im a newb
iowaboostin 05-13-2006, 07:54 PM There's most likely one black wire and one white. White goes to light source (gauge cluster or cig. lighter), black goes to a ground. The gold thing is most likely the compression fitting, which fits the tube into the back of the gauge. You'll route the tube behind your dash and next to the firewall. There'll be a black rubber gromet on the firewall above the pedals (get down on ground and look up with a flashlight underneath the dash, you'll see it. Cut an X with a knife into that gromet. Hook the tube up to a metal clothes hanger or anything else and push the tube through the gromet and into the engine bay. Use the 'T' fitting and T that tube into any boost source.. easiest place is the vacuum line coming from the intake manifold on the driver side.
It's somewhat hard to explain unless I'm there showing you.. the VFAQ is as thorough as it gets, if you're that lost get a local DSMer to help you out.
Blackmage 05-13-2006, 08:48 PM i got i can't stand this fucking plastic tube that came with it also didn't come with a t joint so im going too home depot as we speak lol
Blackmage 05-13-2006, 10:45 PM can i go to autozone tommrow and pick up the t joint for this didn't come with it bastards
Chicago1 05-14-2006, 12:11 PM i have the same boost gauge. I threw away the plastic tube in came with and used different fittings/tube worked out great.
Blackmage 05-14-2006, 12:15 PM where and what size tubeing did you get and where did u get the tjoint
i went to ace hardware bought cooper line and a t joint to fit it but none of it fits my car wasted 10 bucks threw it away lol
AWD92TalonTSi 05-14-2006, 01:52 PM The vinyl tubing you got is 1/8" and designed for compression fittings. Ask somebody at ACE how they work.
you need to decide which rubber line you want to tap into (one to BOV works) go to the store and buy 2 brass (not gold) barbs which fit into that. then buy a T fitting thread the 2 barbs into the t fitting the compression fitting into the other leg.
OR.... take the hose off take your compression fitting. go to the hardware store and tell them you need to hook everything up together with some barbs and and a t fitting.
Make sure you get Teflon tape or it will leak, Also alot of places dont stock 1/8" compression fittings so good luck.

Blackmage 05-15-2006, 12:05 AM ^^ ouch that sounds complicating wouldn't autozone or checkers be better to find the tubeing and the t joint lol
im tapping it threw the fuel pressure thingy on the firewall
dsmbuilder 05-15-2006, 02:39 AM if you go to most car parts stores, they have the copper version of that 1/8 tubing, it is pretty cheap.
Blackmage 05-15-2006, 03:06 AM yeah i bought some water cooper line and it doesn't fit the faze gauge compression shit neither did the t joint was a waste of 10 bucks
ima just take my ass up too autozone with what i need

it's all pretty simple actually.
you need 2 of these that fit your rubber hose

I almost forgot, you'll need 2 of these to hold your rubber hose to your barbs

K_Mans_TSI 05-15-2006, 07:11 AM don't use the vinyl it'll crack use copper tubing, go to advance or autozone and buy the gauge install kit

I used vinyl for 5 years w/o a problem. My new one came with rubber.
bryan
K_Mans_TSI 05-15-2006, 07:56 AM well that's great but that doesn't mean vinyl doesn't crack. $10 is worth it
AWD92TalonTSi 05-15-2006, 08:30 AM well that's great but that doesn't mean vinyl doesn't crack. $10 is worth it
So long as you run it properly and watch out for kinks it should last.
Theres a reason 90% of all vacuum/boost kits come with it.
bryan
K_Mans_TSI 05-15-2006, 08:32 AM and there's a reason most people replace it
AWD92TalonTSi 05-15-2006, 10:06 AM and there's a reason most people replace it
either way, the above fittings mentioned previously will work for copper or vinyl 1/8" line

Blackmage 05-15-2006, 11:42 AM that t joint up there looks waaaay to big to fit the fuel pressure solienoid that goes too the middle of the air intake
thats where i plan on tapeing it

theyre all just random size pictures for reference.
Blackmage 05-15-2006, 12:24 PM ahh well i wouldn't know what sizes and all that i'm pretty dumb so i'm not going back to ace hardware
autozone it is fuck the head drama already wasted 10 on cooper wire and a t joint

ACE will have a much better assortment of brass fittings.
if this is seriously taxing you I would consider finding somebody in the area who knows what they are doing.

you can also use the one that goes to your bov thats where i'm getting mine from.
Blackmage 05-15-2006, 02:25 PM theres like 200 vaccum lines near the bov
i went to autozone there like UM we only got the kit that comes with the gaues i'm like yeah but it don't come with a t joint and the nylon wire is ass you wouldn't know because you all drive hondas
but the p on the thorttle body won't work because the universial with sizes t joint ( the only one they had that was 1/8th in anyway) won't fit on the metal nipple neither will the brass one
i'm so puzzed on what to do right now that im close to lighting my car on fire and cooking bbq on it
also the ones i have taped into all they did was suck air and when turbo hit it barley sucked is that what i'm suppose to look for or what
Blackmage 05-15-2006, 02:29 PM pictures of where there boost taps are would be a wonder for us newbies like me
if you haven't noticed i'm dumb

just light it on fire.
seriously. it doesnt sound like you should even be playing with boost right now. you need to spend some time working on general maitanence things to get your skills and knowledge up.

Blackmage 05-15-2006, 11:52 PM yeah im gonna end up buying a new motor or rebuilding the bottom end
but i'd like to know how to do this i think i found the right one but i can't seem to get the cooper wire onto the plastic t i got i think ima cut it a bit and put the cooper wire inside it and jb weld it lol
K_Mans_TSI 05-16-2006, 09:22 AM it's not supposed to go inside....
greenstreak 05-16-2006, 10:23 AM My god I have never seen something so easy made so hard. The vfaq page tells you everything you need including where to tap into the vac. lines for your signal. I have been using the supplied 1/8" plastic tubing for 9 years with no problems. The only thing I have ever bought extra after installing 3 boost gauges is the little plastic T that I use at the FPR line. .30 1/8 plastic T fitting is the only thing you need in addition to most gauge kits.

amen.
Blackmage 05-16-2006, 11:55 AM this is my first time ever doing a boost gauge so bare with me not everyone gets it at first
thing is i bought a universal t joint at autozone and i am puzzled how to put the cooper wire onto it its too big and it is a 1/8th too 3/4th tjoint
so yeah if had a cam i'd take pictures of it but no where else has this damn tjoint so i'm just going to order one off boost controller
and yes i've used vfaq but have you seen the pictures there very mis leading
rehabquitter19 05-16-2006, 01:56 PM all the bolts and things are extra. i two have the same boost gauge. i just wired it, and tee'd it into the maniford with the plastic tube it came with and never had a problem.

Yes Virginia, it is that easy.
Blackmage 05-16-2006, 11:18 PM Yes Virginia, it is that easy.
maybe im haveing an issue cuz i can't find the correct t joint at autozone checkers or ace hardware i've been there like 3 times already buying and returning this damn things lol
