To put an image in your post, first, the image you want to post must be hosted on the web somewhere and you must be able to obtain its url (the web address of the image). If the image is not hosted on the web, you are not able to post it at the DSMtalk.com Forums. Once you know the url of the image, you can utilize the IMG tag which is vB code. When making your post, simply encase the url of the picture with the image tags. The required code would look like this:

[ img]http://www.someimageaddress.com/mypicture.jpg[/img ]

YOU MUST REMOVE THE SPACES IN THE ABOVE EXAMPLE. A space has been added at the beginning and end of this code to prevent it from being parsed.

If you have followed these directions EXACTLY, and the image appears as a broken link, it is probably because the server you host your image at does not allow off-site linking. Geocities and many other freebie hosts do NOT allow off-site linking of pics.

If you want an image in your signature, you use the same method, except that you put it in your signature, which you can edit from the user control panel (user cp) which is accessible in the upper right of any forums page.

To make the picture dimensions smaller, or to change it's format (from bmp to jpg for example) you need a graphics editor. Go to downloads.com and do a search for "graphics editor". There are cheap and free programs there. You download it to your PC and edit and manipulate to your heart's content.

Regarding pics in your sig, we have an 201 pixel maximum height and a 301 pixel maximum width for all sig pics.

To make the file size smaller, go here: http://netmechanic.com/GIFBot/optimize-graphic.htm

Regarding pics in your sig, we have a 20k maximum file size rule here. This is the maximum of the TOTAL file size of all pics in your sig. Also, only jpg and gif formats are allowed.

If you can not figure out how to use a sig pic, or make them the proper size or dimensions, simply go without one. It is not necessary to have a sig pic.
