Follow this guide from the old Taboo Speed Shop website. It's really your choice about blocking off the EGR. Personally I would seeing as how simple it is and how little time it actually takes. Hope these diamgrams help.

There is a little more to it.
I think I saw a good faq on roadraceenginering.com but I cant find them now.
anyway you want to take it all loose, and then put in a blockoff plate. They are either cheap from ebay, or you can easily make your own from a small piece of scrap metal around the garage. The egr is hard to get too. It is easiest to remove the TB, it is directly under it. From what I learned, since they are mechanical, they did not do their intended job well anyway. In theory, removal should hurt your mpg, but it doesnt.
I think the only benifit to removing it is to keep the black carbon out of your intake.

(this is mostly opinion and not worth much.)

It's not too bad to get to the valve and i wouldn't suggest taking off the throttle body. Once you get in there and take a look at where it sits you will see what you feel is necassary to remove to do the job. Every person is different.

There are many ways to go about actually blocking off the EGR. You can remove the entire valve and replace it with a peice of aluminum, steel or whatever you have kicking around that you can cut to shape. The easiest way to do it though is to get a peice of sheet metal and just cut yourself a new gasket with the holes in the middle for the gases to pass through. Takes about 15 mins with some tin snips. Just trace around the outside of the flange and snip away.

will this help or hurt teh performance?

It's not really a performance mod. As stated above it is rumoured to reduce your gas mileage slightly but i haven't noticed it. The biggest gain from these types of mods is you're de-clutterifying (yes i just made that up) the engine bay. I'm a big fan of simplicity. Also, you are keeping all of those carboned up gases out of your intake manifold. If you've ever attempted cleaning out a stock intake manifold after 240+ kms with the egr valve in place you will know what i mean.

if you take off the EGR system will it make the car idel kinda Ruff like if it has a vacume leak

hmmm makes the car idle like ass eh. im debating if im going to do it or not and im not sure now. will i throw a cel if its removed?

i have a 2g also if that makes a difference, cause i know a 1g dont have the mdp sensor on the intake manifold like the 2g.

The EGR blockoff has been used to help erratic idle in some cases (check out the EGR page under "Engine" section of VFAQ- that's why he blocked off his EGR). Other benefits include:

+ No more exhaust dirtying up the intake manifold.

+ Less clutter underneath the intake manifold.

+ Less vac hoses/potential leaks to worry about.

Disadvantages include:

- Possible problems with emissions (although I have NEVER heard of a DSM that failed emissions ONLY due to a blocked off EGR... you'd be suprised how many 1Gs actually don't even have the vac lines hooked up to this thing anymore... or even have a working EGR anymore yet pass emissions fine!)

- Possible higher gas mileage (although again I have never heard of this happening).

To perform this mod all you do is use a block off plate (either buy one or make one), and using a 10mm socket (I think 10mm... either that or 12mm :P ) put a decently long extension on and undo the two bolts to the bottom left of your throttle body underneath your intake manifold. Pop the EGR off, install the blockoff plate and tighten it down... you do NOT need to put the EGR unit back up once you have this blockoff plate on there.

yeah but on a 2g will that throw a cel? cause the sensor on the top of the intakw manifold on a 2g is supossed to tell if the egr is working on not?

i think it will throw a cell on a 2g and if it does is there a fix for it?

yea if you disconnect the EGR you will get a CEL. most people get something like DSMLINK and just clear the code every time it comes up.

is there any other options on a 2g to bypass that cel and stop it from throwing the egr code when u remove it?
