Heh doesnt really bother or scare me.. Personally i love high mileage cars, because they are well taken care of to get to the miles they are at.

The plan is to drop in a mildly built 6 bolt anyways this winter. ;)

Awesome progress so far. I'm enjoying this thread!
Smart move numbering all those wires. I was thinking about relocating my fuse box to the glove box while installing my 2.4 also, I'm just scared shitless to cut all those wires.

talontsi222
12-29-2006, 08:57 PM
Yes, I was scared shitless too when I first opened up the wire loom to see what kind of project it was going to be.

I just figured if I took my time, labeled everything properly, I wouldn't have a problem.

b00stedtalon2
06-09-2007, 12:24 AM
Hahaha okay okay!

I've been pretty busy with school and such but my FWD threw a few bearings so I tossed a 6 bolt in that so I had to put a hold on the AWD. The FMIC is now on the fwd and the AWD is getting a slowboyracing fmic kit.

I installed some tokico hp's on the car with eibach sportlines and picked up some evo 8 rims for it.

Motor is pretty much done. About to order my garrett gt35r pretty soon with top mount manifold.
http://i18.tinypic.com/4q4nuh0.jpg

The car is getting caged pretty soon by Shearer Fabrications.

Also picked up a 97 talon bumper that will be cut pretty high for the slowboyracing core.

Where did you find your bumper?

totaleclipse_05
06-09-2007, 03:11 PM
I had the same suspension setup as you did, but I went with Pro-Kits a couple years later. Wish I would have done it earlier.

Pro-Kits > Sportlines

Good luck with your car :)

b00stedtalon2
06-10-2007, 12:45 AM
I found the bumper of a local.

And why did you switch with the pro-kit springs? Ive rocked sportlines for 3 years on my 95 tsi fwd and I still love them.

RedTurboEclipse
06-10-2007, 03:53 AM
Because sportlines make the car ridiculously low, gives you horrible negative camber, and you will have to drive slow and sideways with every little bump on the road.

I would have gotten better struts, tokico illuminas, koni yellows, or kyb agxs. I have those same tokico hps with progress springs 1.7" drop, and I'm still not satisfied, well even more so when you ride in a DSM with any of the shocks I mentioned above. I will upgrade eventually.

Other than that, project is looking good, keep us updated with the pics.

Also where does all the wire run through when you relocate the fuse box? Do you just extend it and pass it through that huge grommet on the passenger side and tape/insulate/protect it and connect it back to wherever you mount the fuse box?

I wanted something stiffer and something that I could actually say improved on the handling. Pro-Kits produce basically no body-roll when taking really sharp turns going fast and I love them. Even though my car looked a little better on the Sportlines, I'm willing to sacrifice looks for better performance. It also feels like I'm driving on the road and not floating over stuff.

Oh I see. The car isn't going to be an autocross car or anything. Just a drag car. I couldn't care less how the cars handles at high speed sharp turns.

I ordered some new shit. Should be here next week
-Tial 38mm wastegate
-Tial 50mm bov
-JMF race intake manifold
-1000cc injectors

Picked up a tranny
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/skate3276/IMG_0384Medium.jpg

Made a headlight intake setup, i just need to put some weather stripping on the edges so it looks clean. The piping from the headlight will do a 90* turn than bolt right to my fp intake.
http://i12.tinypic.com/6cyxap2.jpg

The exhaust and wastegate dump will be going out the side of the bumper with the mitsu exhaust housing. Sooner or later I will be getting the gt35r mitsu bolt on so I can swap that right in.

If it was banned it would have a "." as the user title.

It's against our policy for members to have more than one screen name and I have banned people for it in the past. I'm in a really good mood today for some reason, so I'll let it slide.

Yeah, I cut off another 1.5" or so.

For updates, the car is all done pretty much. In the middle of going the MegaSquirt II route. I'll post some updates on that next week as well.

Just noticed looking back at some pics, did you make some sort of a bracket or something for the bumper to prevent it from sagging around the headlight area? Some more info/pics would be awesome since I'm having the same problem. Also, any close up pics of your bumper around the grill area where you cut more towards the top?

b00stedtalon2
12-28-2007, 11:27 AM
For the bumper sag mod, I just bolted some metal to where the bumper support goes and bent it up so when the bumper is installed, it rests on the metal brackets I made.

http://i7.tinypic.com/879low3.jpg

As for cutting the bumper, I just took a dremel and cut up about 2.5 inches from the top. I also cut off the bottom part about 2 inches so the fmic is more exposed and less hidden. Lastly, I cut the fog light areas all the way to the front so the piping is not hidden and the bumper could be put onto the car without any stress on the bumper.

My order came to a total of $380 for the ecu, gm sensors, map sensor, and cords . The only catch is that you have to assemble the ecu yourself. You can buy a complete ECU for around $400 and thats without all the other stuff.

Megasquirt has been a very popular solution for the 420a cars because it gives you so many options to tweak and tune and is very inexpensive compared to other standalone fuel systems out right now. Can't wait to see how it turns out for you b00sted :)

Took the valve cover off then realized the lobes are pretty much pointing in the same direction at TDC for BOTH intake and exhaust. They are suppose to be 180 off from each other.

I'm using Megatune 2.25 beta 18. What do you mean whats the deal with my ECU?

I'm using Megatune 2.25 beta 18. What do you mean whats the deal with my ECU?They were sort of the same question. Never heard of Megatune. You answered it for me. I knew it wasnt an AEM setup or even DSMlink. Just wasnt sure what you were using.

How did you do that to your passenger side headlight?

b00stedtalon2
03-31-2008, 12:56 PM
Well, the EMS is called Megasquirt, but the tuning software for it is called Megatune. It's pretty much the same as AEM, just 1/4 the price.

For my headlight, I just cut a 5" hole in the lens, got some metal ducting from the hardware store and glued it in. Then since it's not a actual headlight, just the lens bolted to the car, you have to cut the mounting spots for the headlight and keep them on the lens so you can bolt it up.

I swear I am gonna kill you, if it wasn't for me, you would still be paying the guy from mega squirt to come down and figure out why your car wouldn't start.
BTW the dots don't line up because you have TWO INTAKE CAMS! lol

Not yet, but I did find the problem. Person that assembled the head put some weird exhaust cam in that is for sure not from a 4g63. The lobes on the exhaust cam almost line up with the intake cam almost like there are two intake cams.

Pfff, n00bs

I understand its the mild steel 8-point roll cage?

How robust are they? do they come with some sort of Homoligation or how is it? the word mild makes me think about the cage being too much show and too little help when one really needs it...?

b00stedtalon2
04-05-2008, 09:47 AM
Yes its the mild steel 8pt. It's for sure pretty damn strong, and if it is welded properly, it will do the job. And yes, it's made specifically for our cars (select 95 talon) and is in spec for racing. It comes with a manual to help you and tells you how it needs to be installed to pass spec.

I hope you meant that was a boost leak test and held 30 psi.

If not, you are a newb and need to get that thing goin already! lol

b00stedtalon2
04-05-2008, 09:41 PM
Yes, 30 psi in all four cylinders. Pretty sure the valves aren't sealing for some really odd reason. I mean, It has a new headgasket with both head and block decked. New piston rings, with timing dead on.

But w/e, the car is a POS and will never start. Kinda just want to send it off to Buschur or something. I give up lol

wishihadatalon
04-07-2008, 02:49 PM
Oh it will start as soon as you get your compression in check. Don't give up now.

b00stedtalon2
04-07-2008, 03:01 PM
Yeah, I pulled off the head, and my brand new cometic headgasket was oily and almost black. Almost like the head wasn't touching the block. Pretty weird because my head was just decked and so was the block 1,000 miles ago.

I'm gonna tossing on a stock felpro sprayed with copper then tourqed with my ARP's, it should be good.

Also sprayed the engine bay flat black, the paint that was in there was pretty bad looking.

I think your the guy who sold or traded that green TSI with the 6 bolt that some noob wrecked. It was a nice car, Ive always liked the dark green Talons especially with the 2GB front end.

ALRIGHT. it is all back together for the last fucking time lol. the battery is dead so I couldn't see if she ran tonight so in the morning i will know. if it doesn't, then either a) the car will have a new owner or b) buschur racing will have a new customer that tows there car to the shop and has them just build a whole new everything for it.

I guess I missed it - but where to did you relocate your fuse box and how?

b00stedtalon2
04-14-2008, 01:27 AM
I relocated it into the center console. Basically I just extended all the wires to it.

Anyways.. car had like 70psi compression after trying a new gasket. I'm tired of messing around with this ignorant motor. So I came up with a new solution, throw in another one! (with good known compression) :D

Old motor out:
