View Full Version : Off the top of my head - if on AWD you remove front driveshafts - do you get RWD?
The other day I saw a thread here where some guy wanted to make a RWD DSM...
I was just thinking - when people do Dynos on AWD where they only have the FWD slots - they put in a "disconnected" differential so that their rear wheels don't spin.
Now, wouldn't it be the same if you simply remove the front halfshafts on an AWD car, and put something into that hole so it doesn't leak? Wouldn't that be enough to make it a RWD?

You'll burn the Viscous Coupling like that

You need a VCE (Viscous Coupler Eliminator). Go to www.machv.com or www.teamrip.com They both sell them and it allows you to put your AWD DSM into 2WD mode by removing the transfer case and driveshaft.
That's FWD mode I'm talking about RWD

These guys already said it, you will burn the VC. What happens with the AWD is if the front tires spin, it heats this coupler up very fast and transfers power to rear wheels. If you take the front axles out and plug them, you will be constantly spinning your VC and heating it to extreme amounts, you continue to drive with it like that and you will burn the SHIT out of it. May I ask why you want only RWD ???

Its 2WD meathead! Doesnt matter if it is the front wheels or rear wheels.
The only thing you have to do is take the CV joints and keep the in the tranny. Same with the drivers side axle that gets bolted to the block. You just need to keep the ports for the CV joints plugged so you dont lose your tranny fluid.

Once again you will burn up the VC! This is a stupid idea anyways:chair:

The VCE locks the center differential together (like a 4x4 in 4-HIGH) so you can go FWD if you remove the transfercase, or RWD if you pop out the front axles.

Hey there little buddy, you don't need to be a dick to him. You stated removing the t-case and driveshaft and that effectively leaves you with a FWD car.
I don't want rwd, I want awd (I'm fwd right now). I was just thinkign about it.

So why did you ask if you could get a RWD out of an AWD car??? Planning on doing sum tokyo drifto ??:D
Lol no just general curiosity. As for tokyo drift... You guys should hear the russian translation for:
"The Fast and the Furious 3: Tokio Dryft"
It goes something like:
"Quick and Very Angry 3: Going Sideways in Tokyo" (but in Russian)

There's nothing like putting a ton of stress on a tiny transfercase
