View Full Version : How much boost do you run on the street?

Indicate the max boost you run on the street, regardless of what gas you use (pump, race, water/alky modifiers, etc).

I normally run abour 20psi. It doesnt really matter how much you run since you can keep your foot off the gas. I rarely get more then 10psi on the street anyways, any more then that is unneeded

I run 20 psi on my daily driver 93 Talon- pump gas
The EVO was set at 24psi on pump.
It has been atleast 2 years since I had pump gas in my '91 Talon and I run anywhere between 35-40 psi with C16.

I run 15, but im only on the stock Turbo
Before I decided to tear my crap down I had the wastegate actuator pulled off my e316g and saw 28psi sometimes creeping to 30psi. That was with 750's, Supra pump, and DSMLINK. The most CFM I think my motor ever saw was just under 30psi on my 20g on C16. I love to push for as much boost as I can, but it has caused some destruction on a few occasions. I guess I should pay attention to my knock sum a little better or at least not ignore it rofl.
I'm just now (picked up the motor yesterday) beginning a 6 bolt G4CS build, and am hoping to run some 1/2 decent boost on it. I'm actually going to be selling my 2G to finance the motor build and then sourcing a 1G AWD shell AFTER the motor is finished. That way I know I'll have as much $ (hopefully) as I need. With Eagle crank and built 8:5 internals/head it should do allright. The most boost I've ever witnessed was just under 80psi on a fully built Dodge Ram with a 12v Cummins in it. The guy had actually modified a compression tester to be his boost gauge!

and does it improve your performance?
It's higher octane fuel - which allows you to run more timing advance and more boost without detonation.
But if you did a simple search, you could find out everything you need to know about "race gas"....

I am running low twenties on my FP3065 on pump 92.I have to give up some afr and quite a bit of timing to run even that though.I have snow performance meth injection to install this year and hoping to up the boost considerably and gain back timing and lean out my afr a bit more.
Might throw the odd race gas or mix some up from xylene or toluene.
I can only imagine how stupid fast this car would be near 30psi.Its very quick now at only around twenty. Remember its not how much boost that makes the power its how much airflow. Bigger turbos flow more air and make more power than small ones.

Well...When I had a running car  (RIP)
I ran 17psi daily on the 14b setup...
And usually about 19-20psi on the EvoIII...
Never ran too much higher than that on pump, I would spike 25psi at the track on 100/110 but it would fall off quickly (boost leaks own me)

As of today 15psi, but I hardly ever hit boost where I live, speed limit limit is 30
Running around twenty or so on pump 92 gasohol. 10 % ethanol.
I plan on running maybe up to 25psi shortly once install snow alc injection.
Or may stay at low twenties and just work on better more aggressive timing and leaner afr. I have plenty of power for any street car with my FP3065,.2.4 ,crower stage 3 and jm fab intake. I am not sure would want the car to be any faster for street duty. You do not try to hit full boost on this car in any busy part of town.I take it to industrial area or highway to let it rip.

I've prolly put close to 1500 miles on the car already spring. That includes 4 trips to US41 (75 miles each way) and a trip to Cordova Dragway (150 mi. each way). Car has been out to Archer a few times, Streets and Strats once. According to my datalogs, I hit full boost in 1st gear, which abides by almost EVERY posted speed limit, with the exception of school zones. As for 2nd gear and up, well......There's always self restraint. I think I've hit full boost 2-3x on the street, and all of those times were on the highway screwing around for a quick second.

Well, when the whole gang's cars are all done and set to kill mode (me, rich, fusion, etc) we will start footage for the new video again, and YOU have to do at least one or two full boost pulls on the highway

4psi isn't gonna make THAT big of a difference.
That depends highly on how high of boost we are talking, the number of RPM the motor is turning, tuning and efficiency of the turbo at given levels.
At 9500 RPM there is a very noticeable difference(more than 15hp) between running 35psi and 39psi with a GT42R.
At lower boost(under 30 psi) if the fuel is changed to higher octane you could gain 50+HP at the same boost level just bumping up the timing.

I'm referring to this guy's last statement.
Man I have to meet you guys. Anyways, I have the profec set to 16PSI low and 20PSI high. Ass whooping at the push of a button.
If 20psi is his HIGH boost levels, I'm assuming he's on a small turbo, such as a 16G, on race gas. If that's the case, it's most likely a simple setup. Of course on a BIG turbo, 4psi makes a huge difference, especially if you increase timing, etc. But in cases such as this, most likely you are looking at a lightly modded car.

With a B16G I normally ran around 18-20psi on pump and 25psi on C16. 5 psi and 5 deg more timing made the difference between high 12's and high 11's.

Running 17psi on a Big16g. I'm getting boost creep all of the sudden up to about 21psi. I don't know if its the cold weather or maybe in need a o2 housing or something. Still trying to figure out whats causing it.

My boost guage max's at 30psi so Im guessing I hit 32-34psi. This is on a 16g and e85 tuning with maf-t/safc and 1200cc injectors. Car is a rocket at this boost level. The difference from 22psi to 30+psi on the 16g is like night and day. These things really open up after 25psi.

17 usually. I can turn it up to 20 (and have for extended periods)... but it's pushing it with the injectors running at almost 100% duty cycle. The water injection keeps things cool and detonation free... but I prefer to use that as a safety net and not a parachute.
