I first bought a 90 NT laser and drove that all through high school, I purchased this car a few months after I graduated and I have owned several other dsm's since then but they were all just parts cars or 'fix and sell' kinda things.

About 2 years ago I took the car to the strip (had 880's, keydiver chip, 20g, ebay fmic, 3" exhaust, walmart mud/snow tires and 188k mile original shortblock as relavant mods) and it was not the day to go. My 20g turbo was puking some serious oil and had done some serious damage to the compressor housing already, the place where I normally got gas was out of premium so I had to use a different station, my datalogger wouldn't sync up with the laptop so the only "window" into what the car was doing was the stock boost gauge converted to a knock gauge and then my safc died so I couldn't even tune it anyway. To make a long story short I was running consitantly in the high 12.7's and low 12.8's but I came there to get a 12.5 out of it, regardless of the "omens" so I kept trying and on the final pass they would let me make that day I ripped off a 12.66 @ 107.9 Unfortunatly on my way back to the pits I noticed there was quite a cloud of smoke following me and the car was struggling to idle...

I drove the car home, smoke trail the whole way and a compression test told the tale: 150psi, 150psi, 150psi, 70psi

After tearing it apart I found the ring land on the #1 piston was cracked and had severly scuffed up the block. I had my 2.4 sitting on a stand waiting though so I wasn't terribly hurt, it had alot of miles and racing it with no logger or afc was a bad idea on my part.

I have alot of things left to do to the car: Get harness grommits for the seats, take the car to my cousin to have the cage finish welded (I fit and tack welded the cage but he is a certified welder), put the interior back together/tuck away the ems and related wiring, get a cop setup and most importantly is the turbo... I am working as much overtime as possible to get a DNP manifold and 4088r turbo but with the holidays coming up money is being diverted away from the car :(

Is that cage part of a kit or was it a custom job?

How is the Fidanza 8lb Flywheel and ACT 2900 w/ Street Disk working out for you? I'm going the exact same route and just wanting to know from another perspective how it's working for ya?

Very Clean Car. Cant wait to see how it all turns out when finished.

I got it from dsmparts.com link (http://www.dsmparts.com/customer/product.php?productid=279&cat=&page=)

It still was alot of cutting and notching as the hoop is the only dsm specific part, the other bars are all universal.

Can't complain, up until the 2.0l died I drove the car everyday with that clutch/flywheel. Put about 6k miles on it and never had any problems :)

I want to have it all setup and dialed in by the time the track opens in the spring.

Yea, I know about the cage :P I got it up and running now (rockin a 14b  ) so I can drive it to his house and get it all welded up.

Thanks for the comments guys, its been a long time getting it to this point...

Thanks, I have no idea if the interior plastic fits or not. At first I wanted to keep all the plastics but i'm not that concerned about it now, I layed some carpet down and it looks pretty nice even without the plastics.

Well, been a while but I've put about 5k miles on the engine with the 14b. I kept trying to save up money for the new turbo but stuff kept coming up (bought a new house  ) so I wasn't getting very far. 3 weeks ago though my GF rolled my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee (was my daily driver/car trailer mule) and after all was said and done I wound up with a check for 2400 from the insurance company.

Which instead of buying a newer/more reliable car I of course spent it on my talon :P

Its a 4088r w/ .85 A/R and yes I know it has coolant on it already... I spilt some coolant on it when I was pulling the radiator. I am building a custom tubular manifold, 3" dp to 3.5" from the firewall back and relocating the alternator to where the AC used to be.

Sean...why only an 85a/r. That's rather small for a 2.4L?

Looking good. ;)

Sean...why only an 85a/r. That's rather small for a 2.4L?

Well, whenever it was running my car has always been my main mode of transport so #1 priority is making sure the car is livable on the street. I needed the car to be able to run on pump gas (even if it is with low boost), drivable clutch (street disk 2900), and some off-boost power. Hence the 2.4 instead of 2.0, fairly high comp. pistons (8.8:1) and I may throw a small shot of nitrous at it later just for good measure.

With the T4 housing hopefully the small A/R will give me good flow even with a fairly small A/R. If I notice it start to choke up at the higher revs I can always swap to a larger A/R as well.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm anxious to get this thing straightened out as well. The track opens the 14th of April here and I would like to be able to start making some shakedown passes by then but there is alot of work ahead and I work every day of the week and have 2 kids to watch when I'm not working so i'm making a realistic goal of the beginning of May.

What happened to the 1g?

I just bought a spyder as well for a dd. Its pretty much required for and dsm enthusiast near a beach.

I parted most of it out and then I had it listed for sale a few places as a caged 1g awd shell but after I pulled the body cladding off the side there was a rust hole big enough for me to literally put my hand through. Damn Iowa road salt; I completely stripped the car and set it off to the car lot in the sky :(
