I first bought a 90 NT laser and drove that all through high school, I purchased this car a few months after I graduated and I have owned several other dsm's since then but they were all just parts cars or 'fix and sell' kinda things.
About 2 years ago I took the car to the strip (had 880's, keydiver chip, 20g, ebay fmic, 3" exhaust, walmart mud/snow tires and 188k mile original shortblock as relavant mods) and it was not the day to go. My 20g turbo was puking some serious oil and had done some serious damage to the compressor housing already, the place where I normally got gas was out of premium so I had to use a different station, my datalogger wouldn't sync up with the laptop so the only "window" into what the car was doing was the stock boost gauge converted to a knock gauge and then my safc died so I couldn't even tune it anyway. To make a long story short I was running consitantly in the high 12.7's and low 12.8's but I came there to get a 12.5 out of it, regardless of the "omens" so I kept trying and on the final pass they would let me make that day I ripped off a 12.66 @ 107.9 Unfortunatly on my way back to the pits I noticed there was quite a cloud of smoke following me and the car was struggling to idle...
I drove the car home, smoke trail the whole way and a compression test told the tale: 150psi, 150psi, 150psi, 70psi
After tearing it apart I found the ring land on the #1 piston was cracked and had severly scuffed up the block. I had my 2.4 sitting on a stand waiting though so I wasn't terribly hurt, it had alot of miles and racing it with no logger or afc was a bad idea on my part.
I have alot of things left to do to the car: Get harness grommits for the seats, take the car to my cousin to have the cage finish welded (I fit and tack welded the cage but he is a certified welder), put the interior back together/tuck away the ems and related wiring, get a cop setup and most importantly is the turbo... I am working as much overtime as possible to get a DNP manifold and 4088r turbo but with the holidays coming up money is being diverted away from the car :(
