Is that flat black or primer? Mods?

looks like matt black. It looks ok... although i say a gloss finnish is still better looking

oneof27

It's a matte finish. you really have to see it in person. I should be getting pics of her as she gets back on the road. I'll put up a mod list once I 'm sure it's all set.

mods?

oneof27
11-29-2006, 05:49 PM
It's a CF hood with gunmetal pins. The roof and mirrors are gloss. They blend in with the tinted windows and make the upper part of the car appear more continuous. I felt that to have the roof matte as well would have clashed with the gloss of the tinted glass.
The rear lights are also blacked out which goes with the theme.

Love the matt look.
Very nice looking car, but the missing wing is burning my retinas.
Wonder how many others noticed the 1Gb Talon side skirts and rear bumper? I did the same thing 4 years ago, how long has your been like that?

Yeah I noticed that. I'm looking forward to more shots from other angles to get a full perspective of this car. Initially I took a glance and thought it was ugly with the matte paint, but the more I look at it the more I like it. :)

oneof27

I can tell you all about the exterior.

She's a 91 AWD tsi. 1gb talon sides and rear. A very nice CF hood with full bracing(no waggle). Blacked out tail lights and markers. Clear corners. angel eye fogs. RX7 rims, powdercoated black. Shaved spoiler and antenna. debadged grill.
My goal with the look was to make the most noticeable sleeper ever.
This car either stands out to someone like a Lambo at a hyundai dealership or looks like nothing at all.
You either love it or care nothing about it. And the latter applies to cops and street racers alike.

Not a huge fan of non glossy paint either but you get big points for doing it right and not rolling it on or rattle canning it like so many others.

I do like the all black look a lot though.

I did something similar in my engine bay when the engine was out. I used regular black base coat, with a ppg semi-gloss clear. Different brands have different methods, but usually it's just the clearcoat, or a flattening agent added to the paint. If you were to use just flat black paint, you had better not touch it or wash it, or else it will scratch and scuff easy. I did my truck with rattle can flat black, and believe me, every wash ended with me buying another couple cans of paint to touch up the sponge swirls.

It's KnightRider Second Generation!! You should get a cd with the Knightrider clips of Kit talking and play them in your car. I think you achieved your goal of a noticable sleeper, black never goes out of style.

so many supporting mods I'm not gonna bother to list them.

semi gloss and matte are something very few people can pull off. it either looks clean, or tacky...

personally, im a fan of matte and semi-gloss black, especially if the car itself is a monster. i give props in yer direction, because as im sure everyone knows, a sleeper dizzum is hard to come by!

The pictures definitely do not do this car justice, I've seen it in person a handful of times and hell I even drove it in a parking lot once a bit after I got my license lol. It's a beautiful car, on very few do I dig the matte black but it's been pulled off nicely here.

I like the look, real nice.

I have a '93 GSX with a decent paint job, but I could easily see doing this. In fact I have an '87 Grand National as well and I have been going through the thought in my mind of taking this route to do something totally different.

Nice job.

Can you exlpain more about the blacked out lights. What does that mean?

oneof27
03-05-2007, 05:09 PM
IF you look at the tail lights, they are darker than stock. I could have painted them darker, but I felt this shade would add to the almost stock look. I was really going for the most outrageous sleeper look I could come up with. As out there as I could get while making the car not stand out at all.

very nice i like the sleeper detail right down to the ultra light but wide enough rims. i use to own fd rims. and then converted to a 4 lug car for a min and now that i am back on 5 lug dam i wish i kept them. IMO black is the best color for cars, but it show everything, with black matt you get the best of both worlds, and its very unique. i am thinking of doing the top half in black matt. it needs painting and i am broke. beauty of a car
