I have had this heap since November of 1995, it was my second car. It has out lasted many girlfriends, got me through high school and college and traveled the east coast. Here is is 2 weeks after I got it, fresh with tint and "TALON" script in the windshield.

On the way to the Shootout 2004, it had a "catastrophic" engine failure at 126,000 miles. Back to the drawing board!
So at that point I decided to get real with modding it and start throwing money away, I mean at it.:wall:
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/files/972889_qe0h0/towtruck.JPG
Now that the car is eleventy billion pieces it is in what I like to call a reloading mode.
With the help of Jackson Auto Machine, JNZ Tuning, JM Fabrications and Philadelphia DSM this Eagle will fly again. It will be a weekend toy and most likely enter road races for shits and giggles. It may not be the obvious route, but it will be an interesting one.

It won't be the fastest thing, but it should have a nice solid smooth power delivery which will be great for autox. If he keeps the weight down it could easily run 14's if not faster.

Thanks,
I took apart the headlights, oven technique, and painted as little as I could black inside. I still lost some of the brightness unfortunately.
I think I got the gauges from procarparts.com, and the bezel most likely from eBay.

Smartass,
Btw a little bit of an update, for those that care.
The block is in assembly now. I had to get another crank, unfortunately. The first 2.4 6 bolt crank I had was not good. So I sent that back, got another one and sent that to the shop. Hopefully this one is good. Should have an answer next week.

Well the next few weekends will be a house cleaning of sorts.
Mostly interior work and engine bay tidying up.
Interior is being converted to black from dark gray. Krylon Fusion paint for the hard plastic surfaces and VHT vinyl dye for the softer surfaces. VHT makes a carpet paint/dye that I used on the carpeted panels on thelower center console with success. I will try it on the main carpet before ordering a black OEM replica. A shout to Chris @ JNZ Tuning for getting me the black/white checkerboard door cards to match my seats.
Removed an alarm/paging system installed year ago to clean up under dash wiring and have a new alarm installed over the winter. I forgot how nasty yards of old electrical tape can be 10 years later.
Swapping in power windows and door locks from my parts car. The door lock assemblies are a PITA to swap, but will be worth it. Contrary to popular belief the whole power system weighs about 2 pounds more than the manual stuff. Not worth the weight savings to lose the convenience in my opinion.
Removal of the A/C system.
Wiring harness swap to one from a turbo car.
Here is a sad pic.

A bit more progress this weekend.
Finished the power window/door lock on the drivers side.
Those little rails are a pain in the ass to fiddle with for the power door lock setup. The power window swap is cake relatively speaking.
Yanked the old ECU and wiring harness out. Since there are so many brackets to remove to get the main harness out, I figured it is a great time to bead blast crap and repaint before installing the turbo harness.
See the crap you deal with on 15 year old never garaged cars in PA. This support bracket was pretty shitty. See the progress half way done cleaning up.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2205/2046043384_afe05c9efb_b.jpg
Here is the engine about halfway through the cleanup process, no more emmissions or A/C. No harness for the time being either.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2203/2045240581_8e31215742_b.jpg
Next episode I will spend some quality time drilling out all the broken bolts from the last few weeks, stay tuned. Taking a week off in December to get this BS stuff done, to make way for the engine install.
Here is some history, probably from 96, with my buddy and his brothers TSi.
Yes that is a pager clipped on my jeans. Cell phones were out of my financial means then.

Thick headgasket? Won't that just lower the compression again?
Why did you choose the 280's? I'd think the 272's would get you the flow you needed and you could use some adjustable gears to put the power range where you wanted it. Would also make it less likely to float a valve into those domed pistons.

Hey Kyle, I figure I would err on the side of caution with the head gasket.
I also wanted to go rather aggressive with the cam profile. Worst case is I can swap them for 272's down the road. I will have adjustable gears on there as well.

Pics my friend! I'm so excited! Also, could you either PM me, or post up a how to on the manual to power conversion? I've got everything I need sitting here, I'm just completely clueless.

ROFL!
Funny Alex!
Sorry guys, not much to update you with. Got caught up in personal stuff, change of jobs, health problem, etc... I won't bore you with that crap.
But the project is by no means scrapped. I will post some update in the next few weeks as time permits.

This is unusual and very cool. What are the plans for tuning/dyno when its done? I'd love to see what it puts down, and really want to hear how it sounds.

Truly the longest build ever. So what ecu management going with this thing? And what NA 4G63 maps are you going to use: JDM, EDM, USDM, or custom?

Yup, longest build ever cause I stopped carrying for awhile, honestly. Just had more important things going on in life to really focus and dedicate time to it. A long time ago I wondered how some guys could get half way into a project and just say hell with it and let it sit. Now I know why, I just got in a rut and the car was the least of my worries.
Got a bit re-energized not to long ago luckily. It will be running this summer, good or bad. I just need to sort a few small things out. It is 90% done, seems the last 10% is the most difficult though. Removing some weight and changing some minor things here and there. Expect it to be fired in the next few weeks. But cross your fingers for me, as it may go Kaboom on the first crank.
I am getting some help from Tom at ECMLink (great guy and company to deal with) on what I am doing with the car. Sending out the ECU which already has V2 on it to get V3 on it and do a little custom programming on it, this week actually.

It's running DSMLink (as far as I know).

Any chance of this being 250 whp off the bottle? That would be nice.

I was shooting for 200HP, without it, but will probably throw some spray on it down the road just to see what happens.

Whats it supposed to weigh? I understand if thats a secret. If you could get it down to 1400 lbs this car will be faster than 90% of the turbo DSMs.

1400lbs is almost impossibly light in one of our cars. If he can get it down to 2200lbs while still retaining some streetability it will be impressive. 1400lbs is gutted and tubeframed CRX territory.

Big is an understatement. I don't think you could get below 1800lbs and really have any streetability. Getting it to 1400lbs would require the replacement of almost every Mitsubishi stamped part in the entire vehicle. It'd essentially be a tube frame hung with the lightest of light materials and even then I don't think it's actually possible given the size and weight of the major components like the iron block.

I didnt know how far he was going to take it....
PC,
Did you ever consider putting a 4g61 crank in a 4g64 block? I was just wondering, quite frankly, n/a setups confuse me. I would rather raise the rpms than stroke it but I really dont know which would be more effective in this case.
