As I stated in my other thread, I just bought my first dsm, a 90 talon tsi awd, that is going to be an ongoing project, so I will try to keep this thread updated as much as possible. (I am trying to get as much done over the winter break as possible).

12/19/06 (Last night)
--Checked the base timing
--Checked under the car for leaks/etc (Drivers side axle boot is torn)
--Removed the intake and checked the turbo for shaft play (there was very little shaft play)
--Removed the intake silencer, removed the lower honeycomb on the mas, removed the BCS restrictor
--Installed my new Dejon Tool metal intake as well as my K&N open element air filter
--Checked tire pressure, checked brakes
--Removed the front fog lights as well as the bumper beam (in preparation for my FMIC)

Problems encountered
--Need to replace the brake rotors
--Need to replace the drivers side axle boot

Other than that, the car is in pretty good condition for a 16 year old car.

Welcome to the forums.
Where in the Mid Atlantic area are you? Looks like you're getting a good start on the car. Any mods yet?

Better change that avatar:P ... although it is good to see a front mount

Yeah, I need to take some pictures of the talon. I miss the integra though; 380whp, open dp. Oh well, the talon is going to be faster; hopefully. I live in Burke, Va. Right near GMU.

Side note, but does anyone know where to buy a factory front bumper? (Mine is cracked and in poor condition)

Bumper cover or bumper support? Either way, the junk yard is your best bet.

bumper cover; I have no bumper beam anymore. Thanks for the response.

ebay has some but they most likely arent by you, the junkyard would be hard to find a 1ga tsi bumper but good luck

Sounds like its coming together pretty good. I've got a 2g o2 housing that you can port out if your interested. G/L with the build.

Not here. All our junkyard has is 1ga bumpers. I can't find one to replace mine.

yeah, i doubt a junkyard bumper would be in better condition than mine anyways. Non-cruise throttle cable install and fuel pump rewire this weekend. I swear, I will get pics up one of these days :)

Out of curiousity does anyone know the weight of the dashboard/center console/etc? Thanks.

turbolover, I'm going to be using an O2 housing eliminator dp, but thanks for the offer.

1/6/07
---Non-cruise throttle cable installed
---New spark plugs installed
---Re-wired the fuel pump

I was at work earlier today, so I wasn't able to run through the non cruise throttle cable install, so here it is. It was fairly easy, with only a few snags. Namely, removing the cable and the plastic clip off of the top of the pedal. I'm 6'3, so it was quite difficult for me to sqeeze my arms behind enough to remove the plastic clip. After I was finished adjusting the new cable, it was instantly apparent that pedal effort is much less and the cable felt much more tight. I am ordering pocketLOGGER as well as a palm m105 (only$50 off of ebay). I will post pics off the 2g maf installation (which will be next weekend).

....Today I installed my friends turbo on his wrx (td05-18g). The turbo installation went well, but the injectors were a huge pain!! The subaru community refers to these 2 green brackets on each fuel rail as the GBOD (Green Brackets Of Death). The name is very fitting. It is near impossible to fit a wrench/socket in a few of the places. Anyways, his tune is this weds. He is shooting for 320awhp and a low 12 sec 1/4 mile pass this spring.

Sounds like its coming along quite nicely man.
Let me know when you're ready to get rid of that intake.

When I bought the car, it had bad idle surge, which I was told that it isn't necessarily bad for the car, so I planned to "fix" it when I had time. Well, after the first few days of ownership, the surge problem disappeared. I haven't had any idle surge in ~3 weeks or so. Any ideas as to why that is?

I had idle surge when I bought my car..still around a bit. I dont know what it is....

Looks like we have both just bought 1g awd dsms....I got mine about 2 weeks ago.. mods so far are new rotors, pads, and calipers for the rear, removed air can, bcs restrictor removed, MBC set a t 14, boost gauge, water temp gauge, 2g shift knob..

Tomorrow Im portin my 2g mani, and 02, and switching them to the 1g...and opening the dp. The hottness of the stockness is killing me, so I don't want to remove interior, or PS, or AC yet...or ABS, cuz thats a bitch.. Good luck with your build..I will keep you updated on mine as well.

Yeah, luckily my car came without ABS anyways. Good luck with your build!

Some bad news, I was driving home from Agile Auto in BelAir, Md (my friend was getting his wrx tuned today *sidenote* he ended up with 300awhp) when I ran over a broken bottle while going ~80mph or so around 1pm this afternoon. Thankfully, I am ok. But the car skidded for a bit while white smoke was billowing out from the friction. The tire tore a huge chunk out of the front bumper. I'm going to order a "new" factory front bumper cover off of ebay (they are selling for $100 shipped), because I really don't like anything on my car to look aftermarket (well, everything except a FMIC  ). I will post up some pics of the carnage. Everything else is fine (I don't know how the brake line survived, but I'm happy that it did)

....still no pics, sorry. Classes started today, but I am going to try to make a few brackets and re-mount the bumper. Stay tuned.....

I had the water line crack (i guess 142k miles will do that to rubber ;)). Luckily, I was just driving my car to park it on the street when it happened. So I bought some reinforced hose (of approximately the same ID as the stock hose) and replaced it. Works perfectly. On a side note, my FMIC and piping came in today. I am just waiting on my new manifold/turbo/injectors/afc to come in the mail. My friend is going to weld up a dp for me (since I am using a 4 bolt t3/t4 turbo). I hope to have everything together by spring break.

Sounds good. I should have my full Evo3 set up done by summer. Let me know when you have pics up. School definitely puts a damper on things, since I don't have my garage or anything to work out of during the week.
Good luck

Yeah, I am a Chemistry major, so I have lab after lab after lab all week. I am going to try to get everything together during spring break.
