i pulled my head today to do valve guid seals and thought about putting new rings in the car since im half way there my comp. was 148-152-155-144 do you guys think its worth it also ive been thinking about the balance shaft thing and would like to here from people how have done it whithout balancing the motor one more thing to pester you guys whith i no cleaning all the carbon is a good idear to prevent knock does any one know a good whay to get that crap of and the white rock like stuff on the exuest valves i can barely shisel that stuff is just worth buing new valves any tips will be helpful

You don't NEED to do your rings. I did though when I did my head job. To do it right though you'd need to replace more than just the rings.
rod bearings
pistons and rods need to be checked by machine shop
they need to be checked for ovaling
crank bearings would be a good idea

Yeah i'd pull the balance shaft for sure it lets the engne rev way faster. It idles a little lumpy but not to bad, to get the white deposits off the valves i used a bench grined with a wire wheel. Of course they have to be out of the head to do this, but i'm sure you have them out anyway.
