I have heard several times on this board that there have been flow tests done against the cyclone intake and the 1G intake.

Well, does anyone have links or actual hard data? I've got a 1G intake sitting at my place that, if beneficial, I am ready to have extrude honed and replace the cyclone if I can find supportive data. I can see shorter runners helping spool up, but, would extrude honing the stock intake noticably help spool up vs. it's original diameter inlets?

I can not comment on spool time B/C to each car and combo this will change. Also I don't do a intake for spool time.

I have no doubt in my mind AT ALL that the 1G Vs the Cyclone intake the 1G will out flow it hands down. The idea with the cyclone is a good idea but for a modded car it isn't, We have done other things to improve spool time and this is now a problem on the top end and not a matter of when it spools. Remember this is a intake for a car that only has a 16G but suffers a poor spool time B/C everything is stock. Yes larger then the US spec parts but everything is larger to it's all in proportion.

I have seen a solid gain of .2-.3 (.2 in most cases ) with a 1G intake extrudehoning

No flow data needed when it is simply faster.

All this and I do have a cyclone intake for sale from a JDM motor but I just cant seem to sell it. Wonder why??? :D

well it depends on what year jap import engine you have az the intake/heads changed on the lancer evolution evo1 ,, the earlier evo 0 also equiped with 16g had the earlier(what you guys call first gen)heads, throttle body, and the vr4s also had the larger equipment..

I had a link to a site that had actual data on the cyclone intake, however the site went down and was no longer put up,

Well, as for flow, the stock intake flows 203CFM, the cyclone intake flows 201CFM, the stock intake Extrude Honed flows 210CFM, the downfall to the cyclone is that the gaskets and replacment parts are hard to find but sunrise mitsu can get jap parts and what not, its also a bit more restrictive compared to a stock manifold.

The cyclone is nice because it reduces lag a bit more, as for how much I have no clue, If i remember correctly it was somewhere around 200rpm vs stock, its also a rare manifold.

In my opinion, I wouldnt bother with a cyclone nor an extrude honed manifold, I would rather spend 400 bux elsewhere or get a magnus intake manifold for a bit more.

To me the cyclone intake seems like a great idea...on a stocker or close to stock car. Once you start modding and need to flow some serious air it is going to become a restriction not a benefit. But then again, when people are ready to go big turbo, cams, and stuff, they are usually not concerned with spool time.

Thanks for the info guys!

Now, I am assuming that 201CFM is WOT and the butterflies opened up?

I'll have to check magnus for flow rates on their intakes. But, since I already have a spare stock intake laying around, I might get it honed out and sell the cyclone to cover the cost... so almost for free?? :)

Is it a safe assumption that the US manifold will bolt up to the JDM Cyclone head?

Those CFM numbers were tested at 28" of water and the butterflys on the cyclone were open.

I never ever saw point to cyclone intake manifold
driving around a car with cams, venom sheet metal intake, 3" inch turbo back, 20G, fmic all goodies etc car had more lowend than most hondas to get moving.Plus racing didn't keep the revs below 5k anyways a butterfly in intake is a restriction. Car got near 25 miles to gallon driving on street easy.

If anyone has ever heard of Isuzu Impulse AWD turbo it has a butterfly intake identical to cyclone. We took off its intake manifold ripped out the butterflies, and welded the holes in side shut, still had good low end but really who gives a shit about lowend unless you are towing. The removal of it gave about 2 mph in 1/4.

Yeah... as soon as I get it honed out, I'm going to replace it. I only got the motor since it was a 6 bolt, so, cyclone or not, big whoop
