this may not be the most technical question, but i am hoping i can get some more reliable answers here.

how does timing, relate to hp. i have a 2g datalogger(alex pepper) and its a no brainer, more timing(spark advance) for a given psi=more hp, car pulls harder. 2g's cant record knock.

but what i was wondering is how much horsepower do you gain w/more timing?
Do any of you log your cars while getting dyno'd, it would be nice to see how much timing effects power output.
say you make 250hp w/10-12 degrees
what would you make w/20 or so, same boost.
Would it be a small difference 5hp or larger 20hp+
Also say 10degrees at 20psi or 20degrees at 18psi, which is making more hp?
WHEN DOES LESS TIMING CANCEL OUT THE POWER OF THE ADDED BOOST?
finally, thats what i really wanted to know

thanks

btw-
reason this came to mind is a friend of mine uses water/alcohol injection in his 1g fwd a/t. he did some logging while at the track, at 18-19psi on a 13b, yes a tiny 13b, w/o using injection he was getting a full knock count of 43, turned on the boost activated injection and his knock sum went down to 10counts. i will try and get his timing numbers before and after also. but wonder what kind of hp gain he got from it.

Unfortunately, the HP relationship between specific air intake volume (boost), fuel delivery, compression, and timing advance will be different from engine to engine, even run to run on the same engine due to air temperature/pressure and other operating conditions. This makes it really hard to even quote a range and then you start throwing non-stock variables like larger turbo, injectors, compression changes, base timing... the list is basically endless, but the point is essentially YOU need to dyno YOUR car to find out that relationship. There are racing 'rules-of-thumb' based on boost pressure increases, but I've found none of these yardsticks that can help with the timing advance 'guesstimation' process.
