I would assume he is either going to the city or be in a 20 mile radius of Albany. Those are the two most concentrated areas for college with a lot of nice schools.

Well there are numerous other suny schools like potsdam, oneota, plattsburgh, blah, blah, blah so i didnt assume anything. Hopefully hes not going to albany cause its one of the lamest cities on the east coast,Im still trying to get out, lol.

Alot of people would disagree with you on that comment. I had a ton of fun there in 4 years and after traveling extensively for work now I would have to say that Albany has alot of big city amenities stuffed into a small package. Very diverse place that has a little bit of everything.

Well I have lived here my whole life and all the people i have known agree with me (which is why most of my friends have moved).Outside of pearl street and lark, there isnt any real culture or positive areas.Tell me what you think is "big city".There are literly 10 bars or so, a few hole in the wall lounges, virtually no shopping (other than crossgates mall) and the job market is a absolute joke if you are looking for any type of a lucrative career.

Dude do you read the news paper? Albany is about to blow up, granted I don’t want to live here anymore either. I just wouldn’t talk shit about it for no reason. It’s not a bad place to live (cheap) or visit, trust me the grass isn’t always greener on the other side lol.

I grew up and currently live about 20minutes south of Albany but lived downtown for 4 years while I was at RPI. Those 10 bars and hole in the walls you refer to are what all the big cities offer but just on a smaller scale. Im not sure what other cities you have been in but crossgates is actually one of the bigger malls in the country. There is always some sort of art/music stuff going on and has easy access to state parks, the mountains in the winter and a ton of stuff to do in the general vicinity. There are a ton of different restaurants in Albany and the immediate areas that offer amost all the options of a bigger city. In general it is a smaller version of the cities like, NYC, Portland, Seattle, DC, San Jose, San Francisco. As was warned before dont always think the grass is greener somewhere else. And as far as a career goes, I am a field engineer in the semiconductor industry so there is no shortage of well paying jobs in the area.:D -Plus I love to read the news.

Ill agree that its a good place to have a family, but outside of that, there is a shitty job market...I was lucky enough to stumble into the biomedical engineering department, but if I hadn't found that, I would still be a fulltime bartender at the olive garden wasting my degree:D
