Crapper, last night I ran about 15 1/8th mile runs, all crap 2.0-2.1 60 ft launches. I was doing better than that without the studderbox. So gsxalex suggested that I set the studderbox on the wrong cruise control switch. What I mean is, the cruise control switch I tapped it to, grounded the switch and allowed the studderbox to be activated all the way to the top of the clutch pedal. Not good as you can guess. My car bogged a lot. Well I'm gonna try to rewire to use the starter to have the studderbox so it stops an inch from the floorboard.

Hmmm. My guess is that you just need to re-adjust how to let out your clutch and maybe change the stutter RPM a little. I used the TMO (which used the lower starter switch on the clutch pedal) and launched at 4000-4500 RPM depending on traction. Then I switched to the DIS2 which uses the higher cruise control switch and launch at 4000-4500 depending on traction.
My average 60 foots with the TMO was around 1.73 or so with a best of 1.70. My average 60 foots with the DIS2 are 1.70 with a best (so far) of 1.68. Bascially, between using the two different switches, I just needed to adjust how quickly I let the clutch out.
If you are just adamant about using the starter switch on the clutch pedal (the lower one), you will need to rig up a relay to reverse the polarity as there is no ground on that switch at all. I was going to do it, but became used to launching off of the top switch so now I am not going to bother.

For the last couple of years I've raced using the e-brake at the starting lights. So it made sense for me to have my stutter-box is hooked up to my e-brake. Todd Chiamparino, my very close friend, runs the same setup in his 10sec Eclipse.
Todd told me that John Sheppard ran his stutter-box at the clutch pedal, that way he kept his throttle to the floor all through the run. After a couple fo drive-line and tranny failures, he's gone to a switch on his steering wheel.
I really like using the stutterbox, with 1.70s being the norm. The only problem I have is that I only get on it when the first orange comes on, that leaves me very little time to concentrate on reaction cause I'm off on the third yellow. Once, and only once did I get on it earlier than that (limiter at 4500rpm), built up too much boost and broke my 4-bolt.

SAfrican,
Just wondering about your broken axles.
Do you run drag-radials or slicks? or regular street tires?
You say you use your e-brake while staging, so i probably don't need to ask this, but here goes anyways- do you get the slack out of the driveline before staging? I do it by using my e-brake while staging, so im figuring this is what you do.
Also, for those e-brack launches, are you slipping your clutch while staged to build boost? Does that work well? I've been thinking about it but it sure seems like a complicated way to launch.
thanks

GSXALEX, when I first starting drag racing my car I used to have a problem with the car creeping forward when I staged. I used the e-brake to hold the car while I learnt the clutch. I did try putting load on the car, but never perfected that, nor did it make that much difference to me. Using the e-brake became more a habit than anything else for me.
When I installed the MSD DIS-2, it made sense to me to hook it up to the e-brake cause I only wanted to use it for the launch and nothing else ... I'm afraid of power shifting in general, and therefore didn't want to use the MSD during shifts like some other guys were.
My stutterbox makes anywhere from 5 to 8 PSi at the lines, and its just enough to dump the clutch on the launch. The time I broke the 4-bolt (on Yoko AVS street tires) I got on the 2 step too long and built 10PSi before the launch, the car got into a massive wheel hop and I didn't back off ... hence my broken axle.
All in all the MSD DIS-2 nice tool for drag racing, but not a necessary tool. It also can be very harsh on the driveline and the pocket if used incorrectly.

Has anyone tried the ignition retard systeme?
What rpm did you start using it at?
How many degrees?

Why would you want to retard your timing? Are you running NOS?

Hey man I haven't touched that crap timing thing... I just use the DIS-2 for the spark and the tight rev limiter.... The timing stuff is weird... let me know if you get it to work effectively somehow... has anyone?

Someone enlighten me, what is this timing method you guys are talking about?

Retarding your timing while on a studder box would build MORE boost, therefore yielding more launching power :).
