Is there any way of preventing crankwalk for the 2G? I know that you never know when it is going to happen, but if you beefed up your block could you possibly prevent it? I want to get a 2G, but I'm kind of scared of this possible problem.

OMG chicken little the sky is falling!!!! and he said the CW word!!!!

Just joking :D

really it's hard to say. No sure fire answer has been given to why this is going on. MANY good ideas but no ANSWER FOR SURE so far. The owner of this site ( WhoaTed ) has a car (95 AWD) with no CW car has WELL over 150K on it. it runs mid 12's and no CW EVER!!

So this is the other side of it. The problem for sure is a problem but by no meas does it say that ALL 2G will have it and that the "fixes" ( if you will ) will work in the long run ( 100K + miles )

I would stick with a car that is from the 94's but a 95 modle. from what I have seen this time of build doesn't seem to be as bad with showing up with CW.

Good luck and Get a 1G anyway B/C pop ups are just cool!! :D

I had a 93 GSX and it was a cool car, but it broke down on me left and right. Not to say that a 2G will be any better, but I have just always liked the way they look. I want a 97-99 model and will wait until I can get one. I hope by the time I can afford one, they will have a fix for the crankwalk. Oh well, I'm only dreaming right now.

I have a VERY early 95 model with a early 94 production date, I have no crankwalk yet(prays to the great dsm god)
its very unfortunate but its all about luck. some people have been trying to modify the thrust bearing, and a few other things. I think cryoing the thrust bearing or getting a thrust bearing made out of much stronger material would definately help.
but until an answer is found.
Keep your oil pressure up and stay off the clutch at lights. and change your oil every 2500 and use an oil cleaner every 1250 so those oil lines dont get blocked.

This topic has been discussed extensivly in a previous thread in this forum... however, this is to sum it up. Problem is assumed to be caused by thrust bearing failure due to lack of oil pressure- due to oil squirters on bottom side of pistons. Solutions/ideas:

Plug squirters or re-drill block for 1g squirters
run oil constantly changed and .5Q+ over full mark
Check Oil Pump for failure and malfunction
upgrade oil pump to one that applies higher pressure and use performance oil
modify thrust bearing and constantly replace it
purchase a 1g block and fit with the 2g head, as 1g blocks are pretty easy to find and cheap to order

several other ideas exist and conecepts are in the works. Go through RRE's links and they've got a lot on the thought. If you want a 2g with a m/t, push the gas up to raise the pressure before you fall the clutch. If it goes in and the pressure is low, you'll grind the bearing. (AKA play green light constantly - if you got a gsx, why not?)

Just check on it. And if you have a 420a (the 2.0L NT chrysler engine) in the 2g's, dont think you're golden, because it's got its own list of problems.

Good luck and if you come up with anything, try it, test it, tell about it, and let's see what we can do...

This was all discussed just recently on this thread.

What I've heard most is to just take care of your car. Get the oil changed frequently. I'm planning on getting a 97-98 Talon and building up a 1G engine then swapping that into it.
