I have a crankwalked '95 GST. I was interested in the 6 bolt swap. Is it feasible to get a used 6-bolt block and crank for a couple hundred bucks? Could I just swap the '95 head and pistons/rods on there without a problem? A highly respectable shop is doing the work. I know the cylinder walls will need to be machined/honed. I just wanted to know if it was a worthwhile idea. Will I need a different clutch with the 6-bolt block, crank, and flywheel? Also, how many hours of labor should be expected for a job like that? Hope someone can answer a few of my questions.

If you are going to do the swap, ditch the 2G block altogether. This topic has been covered A LOT. Use the search function to find more detailed info.

2 Methods seem to be the most prevalent. The RRE method and the Magnus method. RRE method is to machine the 2g front case to match 1G parts. The Magnus method is to Get rid of the 2G crank and cam sensors.

The RRE is more tested but the Magnus method is easier and cheaper, generally speaking.

Dude, did you read the message? I AM mating the 1G block to the 2G head. I just want to know if I can get away with JUST a 6-bolt block, crank, flywheel, water pump, and CAS. Then take the 2G pistons and head out and put them in/on the 6 bolt block. Cause you can get a 6 bolt shortblock for like $1900 but you can get a used 6 bolt block with the above mentioned parts for like $300. I am wondering if anyone has done this and what their impressions were. I want to keep the head and other pieces cause I have the Injen intake and UIC plus some other parts already for the 2G setup.

First, I didn't see the block part. Sorry.

Second, you aren't going to use the 2G rods. Why would you? You plan on maching 2g rods to fit a 1G crank????Won't work. Use the big rods and machine the rods to fit the pistons.

Third, I have the Magnus method in mine. In fact it was the prototype they were working on. 2G head, 1G Crank/Cam AS, 1G oil pump, 1G front case, 1G water pump, 2G engine mount etc. etc. etc.

So Yes its doable. Yes its been done.

And DUDE, if you had read Magnus site you would see that it says you can do it with a 2G head. In fact the head in question is mine.

Ok, now I remember you being that person....ok. Anyway, did you need to use a different clutch when you put the 6-bolt block in?

Nope. Same clutch.

Trevenor, I'm assuming you probably needed a new flywheel for the 6 block??? I'm planning on doing this swap since my engine just went junk, BUT I just bought a Lightweight JUN flywheel and installed an ACT 2600 in my 2gen stock engine 2 weeks ago.

Count the number of bolt holes on the JUN. I think that will answer your question. Remember you are installing a 6-bolt engine. Its called a 6-bolt for a reason. :D
